Hi everyone, I have converted my soarer from Auto to Manual and lost Cruise Control, as I knew I would. Now, I have been on these forums for about 3 years and seen everyone asking about the cruise control, and I even did a bunch of searches, but there doesn't seem to be a thread anywhere that tells people what exactly is required to get the cruise control working, although there are HEAPS of people asking, and about as many people speculating on how to fix it, with now real answer in sight.
So I was hoping that someone who has done the conversion, and got the cruise control to work again, could pop in here and give us the information required to get ours going again.
I was told in a different thread that I need a cruise control switch for the clutch pedal, but I gleaned no further information than that, and since I put in an order for the switch, I was hoping to get some more information before it arrives, in case I need to order any more parts, or modify anything else.
Mostly:
a) Do I need to remove the bridge in the wiring loom near the gearbox that allowed the car to start, in order to get my Cruise Control to work once I have installed the switch on the clutch pedal?
b) Does the wiring for the clutch pedal switch get installed in to Auto cars as well at the factory (i.e. 1 loom for all cars regardless of the gearbox), meaning, can I just plug in this switch, will the loom and plug be there, or do I have to re-wire something to this switch?
c) Are there any further wires that need to be added or cut in order to get the cruise control working?
d) Do I have to do anything more, or not do anything, if I put in a Manual ECU? (i.e. do I have to have a bridge in the auto start loom for the auto ECU, but it has to, or can be removed with the manual ECU?)
Can I have only people that have done this answer please, I don't want to fill up the thread with 300 people saying "Yeah, I heard you can do this" or people saying "I have the same problem". If you have the same problem, just re-visit the thread later to get the answer, we don't need to know you have the same problem. And if you haven't done it before, please refrain from heresay, as it is often a surefire way to make people buy things they don't need, or damage things they do need.

Remove bridge connect clutch switch now run wires from clutch switch to were the bridge was. When its bridged ecu thinks its in neutral, vice versa. Let me know if you have any probs. im Onda mobile so cant go into detail. Muz

Thanks Muzzy, I know what you mean, so I will give that a try once the parts arrive. Hopefully that's all I need.
Hey, Muzzy, since the parts are going to take 3 weeks to get here from Japan, do you reckon I could simply run an open/close switch to say, the glove box, and turn it off once I have started the car, and that would allow the Cruise Control to work?
Normally I wouldn't butcher something like that, it's just that the parts won't be here and I have to drive 1700km's, then back again (3400 kms all up), in about a week and a half, so the cruise control would be really nice

Just a thought, is there an easier place to connect this than at the plug above the gearbox? Since I have to pull out my whole centre console to get to the top of the gearbox so that I can disconnect the bridge and put in the new wires, would there be an easier place to get to this, such as leave the bridge in at the gearbox plug and then cut a wire at the cruise control computer, or at the ECU under the passenger foot well and run the wires to there?
By those diagrams, Cruise control ECU pins 9 and 22 (colours in the diagram are different, correct colours on my loom from a '91 Auto are white / red stripe and brown / yellow stripe) go to the Auto ECU.
these might have to be left open cct.
Also, you will need the clutch switch (normally open, switches 12v to pin 3 of Cruise ECU to cancel set cruise) otherwise the car may rev its tits off if you change gears while cruising.
Also, my clutch switch has nothing connected to it so I don't think the ECU needs that signal. to make yours work with the new manual box, do as Mustafa advised and wire the normally open clutch switch to the points you bridged. This may mean you will need your foot on the clutch to start the car. Can anyone else verify this?
Does anyone have a pinout of the soarer speed control ECU? the pinout I have (supra) is nearly correct, I'd like to check everything again, as well as know where to tap TPS and speed sense (from the odo) from.

Just converted from auto to manual. You have to have the neutral start switch (two big plugs on auto connector that fits spade connectors / fuses) connected to your clutch pedal switch. Do that and it works.

Cutting and bridging are different actions. What did you do?
I know that cutting and bridging are different, and I only cut them because if they were the correct wires and I cut them, then the car would not start. Since the car did start when I cut them, it was safe to assume they are the incorrect wires. Therefore, I didn't need to bridge them.
I fitted the clutch switch assembly and connected it up to the wiring loom on the gearbox. It does work as Muzzy said it would, I was just hoping there was a way to run the wires inside the car rather than from the inside to the outside, as I am sure that somewhere along the line, those wires run to a loom inside the car, so it would be neat and easy to run, but, it looks as though either I am wrong, no one has found these wires inside the car yet, or the people that have found them did not see/reply to this thread.
Anyway, it's all sorted now, thanks to Muzzy and all that helped.

The clutch switch is on the top of the clutch pedal arm. Where did you get the clutch signal from? To make it easier, you can fit a reed switch (from jaycar for $5 instead of using a factory one.
My car had the factory switch but no connector coming out of it.

Where did you get the clutch switch from, and how much was it?
I got it from Toyota and it cost $35. The part number is 88280-33010. As David said, it screws in to the clutch pedal box. You have to remove the neutral start bridge that you would have installed when you did the manual conversion, and using some long wire, run the same terminals that were bridged, up to the switch and then the cruise control will work, and you will need to push the clutch in to start the car.
for a Supra but the soarer one is very similar. Also worth noting that manual soarers do not have the double brake switch, (n/c and n/o) so will need an new switch or a changover relay wired in.

Just got mine working on my 98 1jz vvti model. You need to trick the ecu into thinking its in drive by applying 12v to the green with white stripe wire in the gearbox plug.

Sorry to revive/hijack an old thread but i have a question. I've just converted to manual also but I'm running a stand alone EMS and loom so i do not have factory engine loom. anyone done this and has working cruise control?

as long as the cruise control computer is still receiving the correct signals(it possibly takes the speed signal generated by the trans, from the dash) it may still work. does your speedo still work correctly?
