I'm pretty happy with the results. I'll leave it as is for the mean time, but would like to re-trim the handbrake and steering wheel in the future.

Now, Do the door trims (but not the carpet bit) and the rest of the dash below the suede in black and it will be perfect.

Yeah, i would... But that means painting all the door controls etc.. Plus that bottom door part would be a total pain in the A$$ to cover

Would probably be easier to dye it all..

I'll go a bit different because I'm seeing 4 colours right now - the sprucey green on the top dash, the suede, the grey on the door and the black on the centre console.

I would dye the doors, bottom of the seats and top dash black to match the centre console; then finally keeping what you have done in suede (also the back piece which aligns with the front door in suede as well), the roof lining and seats in suede. Have a black suede and black leather thing happening. That'll look awsome

:-) cheers guys

Kanchana, dying stuff like the seats is easy, but then you have all the other parts which look out of place like the seat belts and seat controls.. Then it all gets out of control and you have to pull the whole interior out and do everything. Better off getting factory black or paying someone to do it.. Way too much hassle for me..

I may do more on the doors and bits and pieces still..

Awwww, poor james... Drop your car around and i'll do stuff to it ;) as long as you let me drive it.. P.S. a tow bar would be nice too :-)

Pulling the interior apart ain't too bad. I used to do it once every few weeks. Take you 1/2 hour max to take it apart.

nice work on the stitching. Usually people redo vinyl by putting on new stuff and glueing it down. Its not hard michael but its hard to do it well.

I didn't take any pics along the way, so it can't be a proper tutorial. All I can do is describe what it did if that helps :-)

First of all, I started small and went from there.

1) Handbrake
2) Center arm rest and cup holder
3) Ignition dash part
4) Glove box
5) Center dash
6) Doors

The handbrake is a good place to start because it's easy to take off, easy to do and has some curve about it and you have to stitch in a straight line. And no glue needed :-)

All i did was kind of trace and outline of the shapes needed, and cut it out bigger all over by about 1cm to allow for a fold on the edges. So the handbrake is 3 pieces joined together. I just pinned the fabric to the vinyl so everything lined up nicely and then stitched it all together.

For things like the center arm rest. I laid down the fabric with folded edges and pinned it, sewed it all up and then bit by bit smooth everything out and glue the fabric down on the underside where it isn't visible.

Word of warning though. The pins DO leave holes in the vinyl. So if aren't sure about it, try and put the pins out of view if possible.

I was scared at first, but then i thought, if i stuff it up, I'll get it professionally covered anyway..

The hardest part by far was the center dash. A) because it was a pain to remove, and B) because it had lots of complex curves. Not so bad with stretchy vinyl and leather, but a challenge for woven fabric.

Where there are hard edges impossible bends, leave a nice folded straight edge and cut out a new piece the right shape and sew it in place.

I'm not sure about all fabric, but this stuff LOVED super glue! Seriously, it cures in a second and does not soak through to the other side unless you totally drench it.

The stitch i used is called "baseball stitch" and it's super easy to do and very hard to make it look bad. Google showed me how :-)

I did one part at a time. Come home from work, take a part off, sew it, put it back on.

If you are planning to paint or dye anything, make sure it's super clean. Otherwise you will cry.

Oh, I used a really strong cotton too. I think it was for upholstery, and i doubled it up too.

If you don't rush everything should work out fine ;)

Thanks again for all the compliments..

I'm thinking I will do more in the future..

As suggested, the rest of the doors except the carpet and the under-side of the dash. Maybe even the front and rear seats and the rear passenger panels. All of which will be dyed/sprayed. And maybe a nice black steering wheel and black steering column. So the interior will be dark green, woodgrain and black.

Hope that helps Michael.

Well, this thread motivated me to try and re-trim a spare centre console that I had at home ...

The centre console was six pieces sewed and glued together
The arm rest was three pieces

It is a big work in progress and am just doing it bit by bit when I have time
