The TAPE button on my dash lost it's light. Are all the buttons run on individual bulbs?

I think I read somewhere a long time ago that it will only light when a tape is in.

Scroll dash is better anyway, it also tells you the exact volume of fuel currently on board and the outside temp if its hooked up?

I have the scroll dash, but no temperature displayed anywhere, I have heard about it, and I am sure the Denso sensor at the front bumper is something to do with it, but not sure....

Anyone else able to shed light on this one?

The 1991 model has the sensor, but the dash didn't display it until 1992 :-(

the red looks really really good.

how did you do the a/c screen? or is that just a replacement bulb as well?

i have the 1992 scroll dash, and if you look closely on it you can actually see the 10 and 15 numbers like in the photo's, but they aren't lit up, nor have i ever seen them lit up?

I know I've raised a thread from the dead but I also know that over the last 10 years people have asked about the possibility of a RED dash.

Many said it couldn't be done because the original filter is red in itself to create the factory white. However with exactly the right pure red filter it can be achieved.

Thanks for the heads up Ali - Well if he contacts me he can have one or he can choose who to give his free one to!

Chris you'll have to pony up! Or pm Mike like crazy!

Vinh - Yes it's been a while although I did some posting in this thread with some update pics of the demo soarer:
http://soarercentral.com/sc-forum/messages/283/271771.html?1296083529

As for the blue dash I only have the one pic at the moment and I can't take another as I have the red dash installed myself currently. The red dash is magical at night in particular. It is however not as easy to see in the daytime but you get used to it.

This pic shows the blue dash to look a little more aqua than it really is. It is more straight blue in real life.

The "kit" that you are referring to is merely blue see through plastic cut to size right. I paid $40+ for mine back in the day from memory and I didn't even get the right sizes. Some one has even used cellophane to do the same thing which would probably only cost a couple dollars but if you don't have the time to find the necessary parts to do this conversion then paying import scene $29 to do the running around for you is not to bad.

Sebastian the kit comprises of four perspex filters cut to size including the edge cuts which need to be just right. The product also includes the detailed fitting instructions.

I would have been happy to swap your kit if it wasn't right? We match all kits to a known master before sending so its the first I've heard of a mistake being made.

The main cost is in the labour in getting these cut and they used to be around the $40 mark but are now $29 after we got a bulk order made.

I've seen the cellophane conversion. Depends what people want. Cellophane may deteriorate over time. These kit pieces will not. Factor in the running about, petrol and time and $29 may not seem like a big deal.

Also it would be very difficult to get the red dash with cellophane. I tried MANY types of red perspex to get the right type that would actually get a red result at acceptable brightness.

As I stated for $29 it's worth it if you don't have much free time which not many people do. As for the red conversion wouldn't it simply be a matter of removing the condoms on the bulbs and leaving the red filter in place?

Gregg, what i really want to know is how to change the colour of the trip and charge screen. i was thinking maybe black text on white or red text on black or something.

Cheers Sabastian -and no that won't work. The main display is a Vacuum Florescent Display (VFD) you cant access the light source. It is natively green without the red filter. The factory red filter makes it the factory whitish colour. That's why you need a very specific type of red filter for it to work.

Ali - trip and charge screen - you mean the bottom strip on the display? You just need a CCFL from jaycar to replace your existing one. You can do a search as its been covered before although don't think you can get the combination you are suggesting.

Is it possible to do the speedo, rev bars, fuel and temp in white?

Ok Ali - I'm sure I've seen it in red somewhere. Might have a go at changing mine over sometime and I'll be able to confirm.

Vinh Because the sealed VFD behind the speedo/rev bars/fuel and temp emits a strong green light you can only attempt to get close to white via applying an appropriate filter. This is actually what the factory red filter is there for - to change the nasty 1980's green colour to an 'off-white' colour which is what you see from factory.

No one to date has been able to apply any other filter to improve on the whitish hue that is achieved from factory with the light red filter.

So pure white would be very unlikely.
