Hey Guys,

With most of the passengers that I carry around being not used to the wonderful rapist feature of the Soarer, I'm paranoid that one day someone's going to snap the door handle off by trying to open it without unlocking the door.
As the drivers door unlocks as its opening, I was wondering if my logic was flawed at all in the theory of sourcing a Lexus drivers side door handle, to replace my passenger side handle??

Ive had ex-housemates snap off the handle.

Thankfully, a bit of super glue left to set overnight cures the problem. I did have an issue with the crack still showing slightly, but using a really fine sandpaper, have made it close to un-noticeable.

That's a good idea Darryn. Now, how do you get a Soarer door from the US to here?

I actually don't think you would be able to hook it up to the drivers-side controls.

i only have a pov pack TT, so im fair game to any rapist thatll have me i guess, but wouldnt it just be a matter of cutting a wire that controls the auto locking? i assume there must be some sort relay or something in or near the handle that tells it when to lock, so if you could snip the wire that goes to the handle that would stop it? or would this cause problems with the whole system? just a thought....

I don't want to remove the auto lock mechanism, just allow the door to be automatically unlocked as you pull the handle (like the driver's side door).

Super glue only works until next time someone does the same thing. I know!

For some reason, which I assumed was NORMAL, our passenger door unlocks the same way as the drivers ie: the passengers door IS locked, and if you wanna get out, you just pull the handle, it unlocks, and out you get, EXACTLY the same as the drivers door .

I've been reading for some time about people breaking the passengers door handle, and was just thinking WTF ???. NOW I've come to the conclusion that the previous owner MAY have done a mod to the door mechanism .

I should say that the auto-lock system works perfectly, and in ALL respects is factory.

previous owner of mine must have done the mod to ,cause mine also locks, you have to unlock it ,not just pull on the handle to unlock it ,you sure that it is factory don? i know the door locking is factory when you drive off,but when you stop and want the passenger to get out just pulling the handle should unlock it eh?

Nope, that's the problem. The passenger door locks until it is manually unlocked.

Our new car does the auto lock thing and it's annoying to have to unlock the passenger door every time, from the driver's side, especially after driving the pov pack Soarer for a year, without the autolock feature.

Mine's also a lil odd. I have an alarm fitted and I think it may be doing this......when I stop and someone gets out of the passengers door and shuts it, the door instantly re-locks. I do not have to go to 23k or whatever the speed is for it to re-lock.

I just assumed the driver's side has a lobe on the handle that unlocks while opening, and was wondering if anyone had any ideas why using a Lexus replacement wouldn't work.

Failing that, I'll just have to steal Don's door trim
