as the thread name suggests. instead of having woodgrain, anyone tried something to make it look like brushed aluminum? got that idea from my dads car, which, instead of woodgrain, has aluminum, and it looks fab.

Ali, you can buy aluminium/silver spraypaint from Bunnings. I would imagine you could sand the woodgrain lightly to provide grip for the paint. Spray two light solid coats letting it dry in between. Apply another coat, and while wet use a sponge or brush to make the brush pattern in the direction you want. You would have to have a guide for your hand of some sort to ensure you have the pattern straight - wavy lines would be a real give away. Maybe attach the trim to a backing board temporarily, and screw a wooden baton parallel with the part you want to treat. You could then use the baton to guide your hand and ensure you don't get the wobbles. You'd have to be quick so it doesn't dry. A light sand, clearcoat and that may be it. You could also try spraying some of the paint into a container then diluting it slightly with thinners and applying that with the brush or sponge.

I'd practice on some scrap material before going for it though!
