hey all i've seen people doing their interiors with basic paints..

like a vinyl then a paint to stick to it, and it looks pretty decent, and was thinking of doing the soarer,

anyone have any suggestions?

btw is the top dash and dash underneath(under steering wheel, and above console easy to remove?)

thanks guys!

actually there's a vinyl/ carpet spray dye by VHT that alot of people use (including my self) for painting the dash. can get it at repco and some other auto places.

the bottom dash isn't to hard to take off. there's a few write ups about taking it all off. i left the top dash on then i painted mine. just masked everything else off.

Come on TY... begin your search buddy !

There is PLENTY on info on this subject on this forum. I read over at least 7 or 8 good threads before i did my transformation. I did a big write up with mine also and used plenty of pics.

So press that search button and have a crack.. OR just scroll down the interior threads and see what you can find (HEAPS OF EM!!!)

report back with your link and THEN ask questions

i think it may be a pain with me and the dash parts, i think the top dash may be hard for a newb like me to take off, reakon it could b done leaving the dash on and just tapping everything off?

im just gonna work on vinyl interior first then do the plastics.. lawrence did you use the same vinyl paint on the plastics?...

so can i just get paint to go straight over the woodgrain?...

everyone seems to go black and red, or just black.. i assumed the same but im thinking something different aswell tho... anyone got any RANDOM suggestions? haha!

thanks for all your help guys im gonna start on thursday :-)

hey Ty just a thought, wait till summer to spray it. If the temp is too low the dye clogs up and makes a nasty mess. Or if possible heat the area you're doing it in. Winter doesn't make the best time to spray anything.
VHT Vinyl dye is available at Coventrys, Repco, MALZ,(note - there are 2 types of black if thats your choice of colour) and try using Bumper paint for the plastics with a good primer. Its a bit more flexible then normal acryllic sprays etc so has more room for error when putting it all back together. I sprayed my plastics with K&H Bumper paint before christmas so far so good.

Ty, did you not read my link? I never took out my dash. Just don't spray too close otherwise it will run, and do light coats waiting between eat coat. Don't rush it, you will regret it.

With the plastics, make sure you use a good primer, then you can use any spray as normal paint will stick to primer.

Remember to PREP WASH everything before spraying.

here is the link to my job. Read it carefully and read all the questions and replies.

You can use simple contact adhesive to cover the woodgrain if you want, in hindsight i should have given that a crack as my woodgrain was a bloody nightmare.

Check this site out mate. I have some of this stuff at home and it's better than vht but there is more work involved. I did mine in vht and it is holding up well after a year and a half but I think the product from the link above would be even better.

Check out Joe's awesome job using the birdsall product, definately the best home job I've seen.

Ty, they are seatcovers from Ultimate Auto Trim in Melbourne. See the group buy on this forum run by Christan.

Microsuede is from Lyncraft's upholstery section.

Cut slightly bigger than needed, spray door pod and the reverse side of the microsuede with aerosol adhesive. Let dry for a few minutes until tacky, then smooth the microsuede over the area. Glue to the reverse side of the door pod with 5 minute Araldite, using clamps to hold. As you move around the door trim, use a blade to trim the microsuede and make notches and cuts to allow it to fit, and move the clamps.

I have heard Prepsol is good, but I just used a Scotch abrasive kitchen pad and dishwashing liquid (from the supermarket) hot water, scrub, rinse well, repeat and dry in the sun.

i am just some people are using the vinyl paint on plastics and some are saying to use a primer and then paint, so im just getting my head around whats gonna look better and why people have there personal preferences etc, sorry i dont have the net for long mate, i tend to miss things, i do apologise but im pretty certain im ready :-)..

i saw how much of a nightmare the woodgrain is, im thinking of either buying vinyl trim that came in some soarers instead of the woodgrain or ill just spray and still leave the woodgrain :-)
