Hi Guys,
Just bought a fuel filter for my v8 soarer this weekend, & got underneath the car to change it- but the nuts appear to be sized...!!
one side is ok, the nut comes of the fuel filter but the other side does not not - i dont want to force it and break it..!
So i have a few questions;
1 = What are the easiest method's to get the fuel filter off...?
2 = Is it possible to relocate the fuel filter say to the engine bay, and modify the fittings to make it heaps easier to change? (would prefer that)
3 = leave the fuel filter in the original location & change the filter fittings & add fuel rubber hose sections leading to a generic plastic fuel filter..?
I did some research & theres not really much on the topic of fuel filters except how to change them -
So id like to hear if anyone has encountered this situation & how they fixed it..!

as i am going to have to replace my fuel filter this week i was wondering if there are any aftermarket fuel filters that do a better job than a genuine one ?? also would it be easier to get a mechanic to do it ? i have no skills at all !

Hi had the same problem the first time changing my filter, one side didn't move so I got frustrated & chop the thing out with a saw ripped all the fuel line out install braided lines from tank to injector rail(that was not easy).install two filters in the line path, a chevy hi-flow filter near stock location & a aeromotive filter from summit under hood before injector rail, never had any issue with heat and fuel burn/consumption

have you tried heating the nut up a little.
not with an oxy set obviously but with something like a heat gun (kinds like a hair dryer on steriods) just sink some heat into the nut and give it a go.
another thing. soak the bastard in penetrene or something similar. give it a few good sprays, leave it for an hour give it a few more sprays. maybe leave it over night. and i assume your using an open ended spanner to un do the nut? go buy your self a pipe spanner like this
and then add something to extend it (bit of pipe over the other end) to give you some extra leverage. and give that ago. if your going to look at replacing the filter or its location you might as well try and rip that bastard off in the process.
maybe do the other side nut up so it holds it in place and you don't just bend the pipe work.

I tried everything that Daniel and Shane suggested and I failed to get it off so I cut it off at the pipe. Once it was off I found that the thread on the nut was stuffed so I wouldn't have been able to screw the new filter on even if I had if got it off.
Just return the filter as it's over priced (I paid $130) and buy an aftermarket one. So much easier and less costly plus you'll be left with some new tools and skills in your arsenal for tackling other jobs as well.
