hello all, i am looking to buy a toyota soarer in hopefully Feb/March of this year. Because of my age and the road regulations in victoria i am restricted to the V8 or 3L straight 6. I would like to know what i should be checking for when i go looking and test driving, some sort of check list would be very handy. List of common repairs and prices. Should i buy private or from a used car dealership. Also where should i go for insurance, ive heard 'just cars' and 'shannons' are good.
would welcome any help/contribution, cheers.

when did you get your licence? i bought my TT when I was 19... it depends on when you get your licence, not your age.

Get a TT anyways

thankz for the info so far, the list particually. if anyone could give some sort of insurance figure, just a rough estimate, ive had my license for 10 months, will be 19 in march. I'm expecting around 2-3 grand, be good to here from someone in a similar age bracket. would an estimate change greatly depending on V8 or straight 6? Who to insure with? Im hoping to go looking soon with a mate, are there any obvious signs that will tell how the car has been treated? Also anyone who has gone through a similar experience buying a used, advice is welcomed. keep the info comin, much thanks.

Welcome Alex:-) We have a VVTi 3.0 and it's beautiful, but I think you'd be getting the earlier pre '97 model. There's nothing wrong with the 3.0 performance-wise although we are more into long-distance travel rather than outright acceleration (not that we cruise very far on a small island:-))

Before we got our first Soarer I checked a few places for insurance and the 3.0 was the cheapest, followed by the V8 then the TT.

Try a few before you buy- the V8 would be nice, the 3.0 is the lightest and most economical of the three models. They often don't have the trappings of the TT and UZZ31/32 though, like TEMS. Our first 3.0 was/is a poverty pack but still has the premium sound system, and the rear wiper/spoiler combo. The '97 VVTi is G-Pak (power seats/tilt) with woodgrain the pov-pak missed but doesn't have the premium sound system with rear sub-woofer. Few of these cars are the same despite appearances.

Alex,
Give me a call, happy to show you mine and what I was looking for when I bought mine. I have a v8 and selling it for $12900. The pics (although not that clear) give you some indication of my soarer. Number is 0409386619.
thanks
Kerry.

I have been looking for a soarer for a while now.

I have seen 8 so far and I was very unimpressed. None of them were from this forum.

I am still looking but I guess I will find what I am looking for in the end.

Does anyone know where I can hire a soarer from. I was thinking of getting one for a day just to get to know they car as well as possible makes it easier to tell if ones I check out are good or not.

Remember also you're not going to find many spotless vehicles when looking at 15 year old cars, from another country, for around 10 to 12 grand.

Got mine for 14K 92 model, spotless too, almost like new inside. Depends on who owns the car, if u keep looking you'll come across a nice one, just a matter of time. Good luck with it mate!
