Hey all

I dont know if this is in the right section and that but i have a question.

I have a 91 TT. The central locking is a bit fudged. From the drivers door when you unlock the car the passenger door doesnt open. But from the button on the drivers door you can lock both doors but not unlock any of them. Also when the car hits 25 or what ever it is both doors lock if they where opened.

Wasnt too sure where to post this but any help will be greatly appreciated. What would the problem be. Is it the central locking and if so should i just buy a alarm with a central locking kit????

What does everybody think

Cheers

I think it's starting to get common for the locks to get sticky when trying to unlock them.

Check to see if they click as if trying to unlock. If so, then buying a new kit won't help.

The doors are supposed to lock when you drive off, it's an anti-hijack feature.

Mines a bit weird, in hot weather both doors will unlock, in cold weather only the drivers door unlocks, go figure!

The car doesnt have keyless entry. When You unlock the drivers door the passengers door doesnt unlock. But it does lock through the central locking unit both when the anti hijacking is armed and also through the button and locking the drivers door. When you press the button for locking the doors it makes a sound when you try to unlock them but the locks dont flip over.

Hope i explained it better this time.

At some point they must have removed it, as my '96 doesnt do that (but my old '91 did)

i used to have an old Supra ('82) and it was doing the same thing with central locking. It unlocks drivers door with the key, but once you are inside you can use the switch to unlock the passenger door. If you press lock on the switch it locks both doors but unlocks passenger's only. I think its a Toyota thing and i don't thing that anything is wrong with your car. Im not sure, but if you buy an alarm with central locking it should work.

"98 PovPac, has anti hijacking. It's so funny when you stop to let people out and they just sit there looking at you, waiting for the door to be unlocked.

I would find it more funny if a guy was giving a chick a ride in his soarer for the first time, and the doors get locked without her knowing about the feature "Muhahaha you won't escape now!" Good thing I dont have this, otherwise I would have to warn every new person in my car that the car does it automatically

Not too sure - I have the 7 speaker stereo and the sat nav/tv/cd head unit, a rear wiper, rear spoiler, traction control - but no keyless entry, electric seats, or ABS - so is it the pov pack?

It's an optioned up pov pack, Matthew. Our '95 3.0 has 7-speaker stereo and wiper, but no remote. The '97 is a G-Pack, which is cruise, power seats and wood. It also has the anti-hijack feature plus the frustrating passenger door locking. It has remote but not functioning.

There is a switch under the steering column. Switch it and see if the remote works. It is the remote override switch.

Ah yes, I think everyone has had a "anti-hijacking central locking makes girl in passenger seat nervous" experience. :-)

Figured - yeah no cruise either (don't miss it though) - but I do have wood, strangely enough. (wood ON THE CAR people!)

Many cars are modified when complied. Check the wiring around the door control module.
The door lock motors get sticky and often don't work properly in one direction.
I can sometimes fix faulty keyless entry. I need the key and the plug-in matching card from the keyless entry box which is located behind the drivers' side rear armrest panel (next to the actual seat belt reel).

I will get around to making a control box for the door locks such that the drivers' door will always unlock when ignition is turned off and the passenger door will do so if the seat belt is done up but not if the belt in undone. (you will need the factory seat belt switches for this to work....they are sometimes removed when seat belts are changed for compliance).

Yeah my TT pov pack is rather unique, only extras are woodgrain, rear wiper and spoiler, but also the factory chrome around the windows just like the V8! Someone mentioned to me there was a limited number of TTs ever made with chrome around the windows, I think it was Callum. He has the same edition car as me (except better looking )

Daniel,
There was a "Special Edition" 6 cyl Soarer that was made for a brief period, that had some odd "Add ons".
I have seen a couple of reliable references to them, but I'm still looking for the definitive answer.

From what I can find out so far, they're fairly rare, as the asking price was a tad steep for what basically amounts to cosmetics, so subsequently not a lot were sold.

I don't think it puts them in the "Rare & desirable" category..........just in the rare dept.

Haha Don, yeah, desirable maybe not, crappy cosmetics that happen to be on an upper model are not anything to be raving about, it's still a pov pack with no Limited features like TEMS ABS electric seats etc etc (as in things that actually matter). But in the end it is rarer than the 32, somewhere around 200 of them were made so yeah.
Still, does that qualify to call my car and Callum's a rare classic?

We don't have that switch, Alfred, just a rectangular blanking plug. As Mark says, the remote doesn't always work, even when you replace the battery in the key and get the red light, as we did, nothing happens.
