G'day people having a bit of a dilemma with suspension, its making a clunking noise ive asked my teachers and lecturers about it and theyve drove it and they think it may be the struts in the teins, possibly have air in them or something along those lines. Any thoughts?

cheers, matty

Checked all the bushes? I had a clunking noise some time back and in ended up being a slightly loose sway bar link. Tightened it up and all was good, didn't have that problem again.

Thats what my automotive teacher suggested that it maybe the sway bar links. Its a frequent noise over any bumps not just round bends. Ill put her on the hoist tomorrow and see what i can do. I'll let you all know how it goes...

Usually the front lower bushes or the rear transmission mount that make the clunking noise.

Front lowers, or in my case:

Front lowers/uppers, 2 engine mounts, 2 ball joints, front wheel bearing, maybe both fronts and possible a rear bearing too.

That makes me a sad panda. :-(

Matt, put it on the hoist and get a bar, and start moving things around the suspension area.
More than likely the lower bushes.( mine was)

does it sound like you are driving over a old wooden type bridge? and do you have tiens? if it just what they do. quick fix turn up the the sterio. otherwise you can get them rebuilt by fulcum, apperently that fixs it aswell. but if you can put up with it and its not hurting anything i suggest option 1

yeah josh i do have tiens and it does sound like im driving over a wooden bridge but a little more subtle, i like that analogy. So it looks like ill be getting my 12 stacker fixed instead. My auto teacher said its a harmless reciprocating road noise he said make no rush to go out and fix it he thinks the struts are just buggered, however because the springs are so tight, not to worry cause they are doing the struts job.

on fixing the stacker, you will probally notice the clucking gets less and less the longer you drive, could just be that i do hear it and more
