Hey

I've read through the archives and have come across similar problems ppl have experienced.

Mainly the whirring noise coming from the left rear that gets louder as speed increases.

If this is the case what costs would i be looking at? Can anyone recommend a place in Perth?

Probably LH rear wheel bearing, it's normally the first side to go because it takes most of the load due to road camber etc.

Don't know cost for whole job, but the bearing part number is DAC4380A (Koyo brand).

Mine has started to make slightly noticeable noise above 100kph :-(

How annoying that the first thing to go sour with my car is a wheel bearing.

edit: thanks for the part # Don :-)

Greg-
$420 is a bit pricey isn't it??
Is that for just the one or both sides?
Has anyone had theirs done cheaper?

Ryan, left hand side mate?
I hear a 'whirl' at >100kph. That what you heard?
The noise became apparent after a wheel alignment, maybe because the load angle on the bearing changed.

Yes I think it was pricey too.
but I had to get it done asap as the noise was driving me crazy!
I heard you can get it done for less.
Just shop around.

I had my front wheel bearing changed with Genuine parts, the rear caliper re built, and all the other wheel bearings pulled apart and checked for $750.

Good Local Mechanic. Nice guy too.

Those wheel bearings are HUGE! They are like 2 big ass bearings together. I was impressed.

I picked up my soarer a few weeks ago and i didn't notice the noise then, nor did any of my friends who i brought along to the inspection (some were standing outside waiting for me during the test drive too.) But from about 10-50kmph there's a clicking noise coming from the front left wheel or general area, and as i pick up speed the noise will also increase in frequency. (It's kind of like those clacking things you put on your pushbike spokes) but its intermittent, i haven't really taken notice because i have my system on most of the time but generally when i leave my house there's no noise. It still bugs me because i know its there even if i don't hear it with my system up. Should i be looking at getting the bearings changed too?

I also have a problem with my car pulling right, but i doubt its related. I've done an alignment and there's no difference, although they told me that its because of my tyres

dont think a bearing would make a clicking noise. scraping/whirring noise would be a bearing.

clicking, im not sure about. take the wheel off and check to see if anything is stuck in there maybe?

car pulling could be the tyres, or the car might have been i na major accident.

Matchy.

It's probably a long shot but I had similar noise coming from the left rear.
In the end there was a small piece of metal shaving inside my wheel.
(don't ask me how it got there
I took the wheel off and bounced it, there it was, a small rattle.
Took it to the work shop.
They have taken the tyre off, piffed the metal bit and it is all good.

The noise dissapeared after I hit 40km/h
If you can hear it at that speed or faster then it is not inside your rim

Matchy, first thing to do is get the wheel off and inspect the brake caliper and rotor to make sure all looks well. Make sure your anti-rattle clips are all present and nothing foreign is lodged anywhere. Check for excess movement in the pads and that the rotors are smooth and turn easily. Then you can start to think about wheel bearings. If unsure, get a brake specialist to check it out, especially if your car is pulling as you say.
