I've got a '91 GTTL with tems, and I had no problem at all when I changed the front struts to KYB sports items. The dash WON'T do its christmas tree impression if that's what you're asking. Although I;m not to sure what will happen when you run a diagnostic, as that analyses the tems too, then that wouldn't be much of a problem anyway!

Lindsey, when you (or whoever) removes the TEMS caps on top of your strut towers you will see a simple clip that disconnects the wiring from the shocks. TEMS is then disconnected. The physical mounting of the shocks is exactly the same.
Ive left my TEMS caps in place, though theyre not actually screwed down (no they dont fall off), they just hide the adjustment knob from any prying (read police) eyes that happen to glance under the bonnet.
You dont need pillowball mounts as your camber/caster adjustment is all done down at your wishbones, not at your strut tower.
No it won't affect your installation. If you don't have the specific pillowball tops from Tein you should be able to use your original upper mounts, although on the Tein website it states that you should use the upper mounts off a non-TEMS Soarer... don't know how much difference there is between the two, if any.
