$650 fitted sounds great with the alignment and also safety check is included as well . The guys at Dandenong fitted my Coilovers for $550 (fitting only) and did a great job .

You can reset your factory springs to whatever height you want for $250 in Melbourne.. then just get yourself a wheel alignment and your done!

booked for this saturday at The suspension center, it is going to cost $300 (adjusting the factory springs) with no alignment. good savings comparing to Pedders but just out of curiosity, with this kind of expenses, is it better to keep the factory springs or should go for new springs. Over all , which is better in long run? cheers

I prefered to go with the factory ones.... aftermarket ones are at a fixed height.... usually around 30mm drop... if you only want to go 10 or 20mm, then you run into problems... plus the factory springs should give you a softer ride compared to the harder aftermarket springs.. atleast that is what I have found.. $300... aah well... guess I'm just connected! LOL

hey guys, sorry to revive an old thread, but I also want my car lowered at this shop (Suspension Centre in Kealba), but don't know much about springs unfortunately Anyone know how much I can lower it from stock without it majorly rubbing? Don't mind the speedhump/driveway annoyances, just want it to sit low And does anyone know whether they chop the stock springs or compress them? Or recommend any other shops that do lowering for about the same price any first hand experience with shops would be greatly appreciated thanks guys

Rez, Ive had a few cars done there... including one of the soarers and their work is fantastic. They don't cut springs there, they are re-set to the hight you request... With your kit, I would drop an inch, maybe an inch and a half.... too much more and your gonna run into problems...but you can discuss that with them when you take the car in!

Thanks for the info Rob just helped me push myself over the line with the decision Does anyone know whether it's possible to just lower the rear springs for a cheaper price or is this idea just stupid? My front seems to sit alot higher than the rear which is hell annoying, I'm somewhat happy with the rear height, its just the front height with my 19s thanks again for the input fellas

they charge per spring so if you only wanna get the rears done that's fine.... Perhaps get the rears done, see what you think after a couple weeks (it will take them that long to settle into their final position), and if you then wanna do the fronts, do em.. if not, job finished!

How exactly are they resetting height without cutting springs? Are they messing with the springs or changing the mounts? Springs are (surprisingly) made of spring steel which is a carefully prepared steel. There are three ways that I am aware of to change the height of spring steel with heat, if this is how they are doing it. 1. Overheat an area with a torch and collapse a coil. Very dangerous and illegal. Even a small area of high enough temperature will start stress risers in a spring. You should never grind flat out on a spring or even let weld spatter sit on it. 2. Mild heat, a hydraulic press and about an hour will change the spring's height for a while, but eventually it will come back to some degree. This is often referred to as cold setting. 3. A carefully controlled oven, a long time, and an experienced operator can anneal, reshape, and then re- heat treat a spring. But the cost of doing this outweighs the cost of just buying new springs. This process is usually only done on things like leaf springs from near 100 years ago that can't be replaced. So please be aware of what people do to your springs. A lot of shops do a mixture of 1 and 2 which is not the right thing to do. You are far better off with a coil cut off than how many people try to mess with springs.

i dont agree, for years and years i've had many cars done and done hundreds of thousands of km, the place i go to in nth melbourne compresses the spring, they have been around for many years and do lots of work and rebuild most of the leaf spring for pedders my point is, never ever had an issue.... i've had maybe 10 cars done there at least, springs are heated and put in a press what does happen is over a long long period of time they eventually sag 5-10mm but this is no worse than on any new king spring for example if you are so concerned with that there are a few places that custom wind springs, so you can get brandnew springs made to any height you want fact is at the end of the day any modification to any spring on any car is not legal, only way to keep legal is to use new springs... do places really cut springs? like somewhere you go to an pay money? serious? i doubt it... cutting springs is more like a backyards job... i had a falcon with cut springs, did 15,000km with non captive rear springs and im not dead, they didnt fall out and kill me, and i didnt bounce off the road and kill someone... no i dont claim to be an expert but i've lowered everything! cars bikes scooters 4x4's trailers my standards in women and if you dont do really stupid it's fine... i've seen dickheads chop springs but have them fall out and rip open the tyre sidewall, you gotta have some clue about what your doing.. best advice though, is dont lower your car.... 99.99% of cars actually handle better stock... not to mention ride much nicer.... only reason why i do is because i have an illness and cant help myself

Just letting you know the metallurgy mate. "Re-arched" leaf springs are notorious for lasting a year or so then slowly rising again. Read the material from a spring *manufacturer* like Eaton. It will probably echo almost exactly what I wrote above. Read posts on classic car forums of people who have paid to have springs re-arched. They are never happy. Naturally if you cut a coil spring too far it is not going to stay in its pocket, and dumped Falcons are known for that. But "lowered springs" are shorter than stock also. In fact lowered springs are usually even shorter than a cut spring as lowered springs are made with a stiffer rate, so for the same ride height they will have a shorter height at rest. If you are dumping a car so far that the springs fall out, neither cut nor heated springs are going to stay in. In that case you are going to need dual rate springs or (for coilovers) additional "tender" springs. If you can get heated springs to stay in place it means their rate has been made so soft that the car will handle like a bucket of crap. And you are also lining up for a broken spring if they were heated that hot and weren't re-annealed and shot peened. As I said, with regard to the metallurgy, I would prefer to properly cut *a* coil off a spring rather than heat it every day of the week, to drop a car one or two inches. Spring steel is not something to be messed with by guys with a press and an oxy. That is a true backyarder. Spring steel is made to have a memory. Cutting springs is MUCH more successful than messing with their metallurgy. If your heated and squished coil springs are not coming back to their original height, they are an accident waiting to happen. This is why there is VERY strict legislation against heating springs.

yeah sure i agree but the heated compressed coils never go back just down and down... i have heard about failures, but havent experienced any, also you shouldnt reset your coils instead buy new, because when you want o go back to std, for clearing a defect or rwc or whatever it's a pita to find std springs but i also believe honestly thst suspension should not be messed with, it's hard to improve on factory setups sure a lowered car feels faster through the corners due to the raised levels of nvh, but every car i have lowered was better when i put in the stock suspension items come sale time.... some times so much better infact that i was re thinking the sale but now i dont have to worry, im not running coils anymore and have instant lowering at the press of a button... yet i still want lower lol
