Hi Guys, Have owned A 31 for four years and a 32 for the past year and have learnt a lot off this site so time to put back a bit.
Have just launched into rebuilding Mine and a mates 32 Active Suspension. I work in a Machine shop so cutting/ Welding Acumulators is not a big stretch. On disassembling the Accumulator we discovered what we believe to be the real reason for loss of Nitrogen from the Cylinders. There was thin strings of rubber from the piston "O" Ring in there (As well as Oil on the wrong side of piston!)Which was tracked to the "O" Rings rolling on the piston and in turn wearing out the seating face of the it on the Piston. We have been able to fix the piston with some remachining and add Teflon Back up rings to stop it happening again. We have measured all of the Cylinders for flairing in the middle and have not noticed any. If it was a problem I would resize the whole lot to 50.8 (standard 2") as all parts are dirt cheap. On another note has anyone Looked into the Heritage of the
active Suspension? Toyota Part owns Yamaha and Yamaha designed the intake on the V8 and I believe on all the VVTI engines so it would not be much of a stretch to get them to design the Active as If you look at it from A Dirt Bike racers point of view the Active Struts are basically just Upside down Fork Legs With Hyd Pump instead of Springs? By the way, I went to the Yamaha Dealer and Back tracked the the Strut wiper seals, they are vertually the same as YZ80J (Rear) IT175J (Front). Built out of Bike Technology me thinks?

Good one Joe.
Sounds like you'll be about to get a few calls from '32 owners wanting their struts refurbished.

Have got the Front strut Shreider valves sorted also. Am removing the lower attaching bracket and machining a new wider end cap that will have the valve fitted into the side of it. does away with welding onto the cylinder itself and still get to regas on a hoist.

After refitting the slight height difference can be adjusted out with the adjusting turn buckle on the car.

Great work Joe, but a bit like re-inventing the wheel. Peter Taplin has been doing similar yet more extensive work on the UZZ32 struts for some time. Maybe best to drop him a line and compare notes.

Many UZZ32's running around VIC, SA and the NT with fully refurbished accumulators courtesy of Peter's handiwork.

New outer tubes, new bases with valve point, new lower mounting saddles, new O rings, refurbished pistons and wipers and even adjusted valving and pressure rates for those requiring a little more spirited driving than the average 32 driver.
