My brothers TT needs a new diff. It has a open center ATM and has twin TD05 turbos so wheelspin is going to be a pretty massive issue.

I have spent over and hour reading up on threads and was just checking to see what our options are.

So far I believe the best bet is an A01B from an NA JZA80. This will be a straight bolt up with the same ratio as a TT will it? Will this be a torsen I or torsen II?

Which cars come with a compatible TI or TII?

Where do I find these diffs and how much should I be paying for TI and TII diffs?

As for after market centers. I would be right in saying these cost around double the price?

Thanks for your help.

Dennis.

Ok will the Torsen center out of an Aristo fit into a TT?

Thanks. I spent about an hour searching. There was something about the axle stubs not fitting or something? Can anyone clear this up?

So did you actually fit the Torsen out of an Aristo into your TT open wheeler?

I need some help soon. I have someone waiting for me to buy a diff off him and he is not going to hold it forever. Trust me I have searched and searched.

What is this about axle stubs not fitting?

well when i bought my aristo centre (which i ended up selling anyways) it came with the axel stubs which were required. I think they are a little shorter ?

You will need (or you SHOULD) but new diff bearings also before you do this job, they are another 260 or so from Toyota.

I realised it was going to be harder than it should be swapping centres over and just bought a whole unit ready to go and simply bolted that bad boy straight in. that was also from an Aristo.

Hi Dennis, The manual jza80 non turbo supra torsen will fit in nicely. The ratios are a bit shorter, yet response is better. Personally, I would not fit the aristo diff as it is not a direct fit. The other option is to throw in a 1.5way trd lsd centre into the open wheeler. The Kaaz lsd is supposedly the best. Try checking wreckers interstate for a Supra Torsen. I hope your brother finds a Torsen. The twin TD05 sounds great too.

Thanks for the reply. But this is more conflicting info on this. I wasn't planning on using the whole Aristo diff. Just the torsen center. We certainly want to keep the 4.08 gears. I thought you could just use the center?

James, can you remember the details on why it was going to be too hard? With your new diff, did you end up with a taller ratio?

I'm about ready to give up.

I've got a 1997 NA A80 diff in mine, apparently their 4.11 and stock Soarer was 4.08 so a bees d1ck difference. Visually you can seperate the T1 from the TII's by the chunkier cooling fins on the TII.

I paid $1000 for mine, that was the full diff, fitted with oils, not a bad price I don't think. :-)

Hi Dennis,

I only gave up cos i didnt want to wait to get it rebuilt from the diff shop.

Thats why i bought a complete unit so it would simply bolt up.

Thanks guys. If you are mechanically minded, would it be hard to fit the Aristo torsen center into a Soarer housing to retain the 4.08 gears?

I think the T2 is going to be the better option though. Where would I find one of these? Where is the best place to look? I asked Neil on here and he said he has none and they are becoming rarer.

Dennis i replied to your thread over at PF ;)

I will try to sum it up!

All Aristo and JZA80 Supra (except 6-speed turbo '93-'96) centres and housings are straight bolt-in, only differences are the ratios and minor casting differences (fins) on the Supra housings

If you get a non-turbo, non-6-speed Supra diff it should be the same 4.08 ratio so you wont even need to swap centres, just bolt the whole thing in

Now, if you get a complete diff/housing with a factory-installed T2 centre, it is also bolt-in, however depending on what donor car it came from the axle stubs may use smaller driveshaft bolts, so make sure you use your existing soarer axles when you reassemble the centre with your 4.08 gears (again, straight swap)

None of this is difficult at all, but remember to use loctite on the crown and driveshaft bolts

Also, T2 diffs can be had from Yahoo.jp, i have one already and another on its way, look for UZZ40, JZS16x or late-model JZA80 diffs

Cheers Phil. Can anyone use yahoo japan? What do you have to look out for when ordering from it? I cant get it to work even with the translator.

So the only T2 diff with the right ratio is a late model NA Auto JZA80? What ratio do the UZZ40 and, JZS16x have?

Thanks! Hey how do I view that page? I have fire fox and pretty much all of it is either Japanese or strange unreadable symbols. Do I need to use a different browser or some sort of translator plug in?

That is a TORSEN ... as it has all the little gears inside it. (bit hard to see)

Im sure someone will have a decent pic that compares the two. Or GOOGLE / wikipedia / howstuffworks.com may have some also.

I'd sell my TORSEN for $1000
