Just had new shocks and some bushes fitted to the JZZ31. I ordered SuperPro bushes and the sway bar and steering rack bushes fitted perfectly- not so the control arm bushes, which were way out. The fronts were too small, consistent with our arm being "early model" in SuperPro catalogue, but the rears are too big, which is inconsistent with our control arm being "early model" or indeed "late model". The measurements are (for the bushes) Front 46mm vs 49.5mm, Rear 51.1 vs 54.8. I bought bushes with the first measurements (46 & 51.1mm).

The part numbers are SPF1650K for the front and SPF1651 for the rear. At the moment I'm trying to get a refund or at least the right bushes (the originals were actually OK according to the mechanic). Doesn't seem sensible though to get "early model" bushes since these won't fit either, so I wonder which control arms I actually have! It would have helped if the mechanic had actually measured the bush housings while the arm was off, it's difficult with them mounted.

Moral of the story: be wary of online catalogues!

Mike most Soarers will use SPF1403K for the fronts and SPF1404K for the rears

ie 49.5mm and 54.8mm

However the EPC says the control arms for 1996+ cars are a differnet part number, so maybe they changed the bush size?

Sounds like they did, Phil. It's an odd situation though when neither of the listed bush sets fit (or will fit)!

I get crap like this everyday from customers, especially with nissans too.

If any, and I mean any super pro bush has a size or OE number written there, its teling you something.....Measure it.

Every catalogue underthe sun is crap and wrong. especially RDA and they dont care, no one does. I know its bad, and they should fix it, but they wont.

Anyway

hey buddy i found getting parts from aftermarket suppliers more, even much more than toyota. If toyta is being slack about owning an import go to castlehilltoyota.com.au they have a full trd catalogue and many parts in stock and its not hard to order. i live 800km from sydney but its easier to get my parts from there than it is to get them 50k up the road. email what you want they email back prices and avalability. i just ordered a trd lsd conversion.

Can anyone tell me what i'll cost for a set of control arm bushes - upper and lower, both left and right, and also roughly what labour might cost...cheers.

And also, is the cost the same for the rear?

Thanks, Sean.

How long is a piece of string? lol

I got quote ranging from $1600 for just the front bushed, labour only (Pedders), through to $250 (tyrepower) for front bush labour (I supplied everything) and they ever replaced my rear springs (wasn't going to get that done that day, but they were in the box so they did that too!!!) and a wheel allignment :-)

As for the rear bushes, they are EVIL in terms of labour compared to the fronts, the guys that did the job on my fronts quoted me a minimum of $600 to replace the rear bushings, labour only.

Okay, this will sound completely stupid but.....

If I just get rid of the airbag suspension and upgrade to coilovers, can you get a package that includes everything, including bushes? Or are they a separate thing all together?

I get asked that alot, as in, I want to buy the lot in a kit, I say, no have to buy individually, and then they back out of the sale.

Its like, um your invoice is going to say teh exact same thing.

Basically what Dave is saying is...

The prices he quotes are firm, there is no further discount if you buy 1 or do the whole car. And super-pro don't do 'kits' as such, you tell them what you need, they send you it.

I paid $75 for the front lower control arm set and $83 for the back set (SuperPro). It seems that I have an "early model" control arm not late model despite it being the update '97 model. Waiting to hear from Fulcrum regarding a swap.

Need to look at getting mine done after xmas. WIll prob grab the Vlamos Steering rack ones, easier to install myself as they are 2 piece, but the LCA's im not too fussed on.
