I know this sounds silly, but there's a gap between the ball joint of the tie rod end and where it mates up.
Here's a diagram to show what i mean, it's about 1 to 3mm in between the rubber and the metal.
I don't think this is normal, but I'm not entirely certain. I've had my car at a few places and I've noted this to whoever worked on my car, but they haven't done anything.

correct matt, noramally if they were fresh tie rods the rubber dust boot would be all the way up the top, so you couldnt see the gap, but 15+ year old cars are great

OE style replcaments are $40 ea, and i have some here
Adjustable ones are adjustable for bump steer, these are great for tuning your car for handling, and bad for wear and reliability. please google failures to make sure your still want aftermarket ones. And please dont buy some cheap chinese ones either
