G'day Guys,

I'm getting way ahead of myself here but like to know the facts beforehand.

Are there any taller gear ratios available for the Soarer differential? Ideally I would like something in the 2.7:1 ballpark.

Why I hear you ask, when I switch to manual trans I do not want to use an overdrive and lose the HP it takes to spin the overdrive gears. With a 1:1 top gear hp lost to the transmission is minimal.

Thanks in advance,
Rob

Are you going to not use 5th gear?

The lowest I have seen is a 3.2 from a 6speed Supra which requires axle changes to fit.

G'day Matt,

Thanks for the info, 3.2 is better but still not tall enough for me.

I doubt I will fit a 5 speed when I go manual.

Many vehicles only use a strong three speed transmission for land speed racing. Some use a 4 speed with 1st and reverse removed to save the hp loss turning those. I do have a Ford 3 speed top loader that I may well use.

No matter what I will have to make my own scatter shield or make an adaptor from the block to a bolt pattern that will allow me to purchase a scatter shield and bolt up the manual transmission.

Cheers,
Rob

do you really think that there will be that much of a loss through 1 set of gears?

G'day Steven,

There are lots of guys running land speed who have missed the record by under 1mph. When you're pushing the envelope everything counts.

Cheers,
Rob
