Suspension is the one thing i know nothing about. I've been looking for a suspension kit or someone who can make one to raise my 1991 tt up a few inches for when i want to get down my driveway, which is ridiculas, but i don't want it at that height all the time. I've been warned off second hand v8 suspension but i would really love suspension with a spring and an airbag. does anyone know if this is possible and if so how much does it cost. thanks

www.airbagit.com

Also look up Chassistech on the goldcoast and the airbagman in the whitepages. They all do air-bag suspension, price is around 1800 plus fitment for 4 struts compressor, tank and the wiring.

PS - air-bags from airbagit dont fit in soarers, so you have to use air cylinders, like me :-)

Then you can raise it high, and drop it low with the press of a button.

They quoted me $90 for a compressor filter, can you get me one cheaper? :-)

why?

I can press a button and get 30cm of clearance to get up my steep as hell driveway, and press another button and after 1.2seconds have it less than a cm off the ground, perfect for showing off to the ladies.

Try and do that with your 31

did you even read my posts?

Air cylinders are exaclty what they are called. Picture a bonnet strut 10 times larger and having a knob on the end so you can pump 150psi of air ino it :-)

can those air cylinders be adjusted from inside the car or do you pump them individually from outside the car. what do they cost and where do i get them, how well do they handle?

have a look on airbagit.com all the details are on there. Mine uses a 24 button wireless remote.

Ride is good for what it can do. Just a bit bouncy. You can get extras to fix this issue though.

Are Air Cylinders legal, or able to be engineered to be used legally on aussie roads?

They seem like a good alternative to airbags...

air cylinders (or cans) are completely legal although you do have to conform to alot of rules from the RTA . .

you must have bumpstops, and must not go under 1/3 of your stock suspension height (roughly 100mm)

you must not be able to alter your suspension whilst driving, and it must be wired up to your handbrake so that you cant use it whilst driving . .

it must be engineered by a reputable engineer (there are lists of these engineers on the RTA webpage) . .

there are more rules you need to follow and they are on the RTA website if you wanted to check it out,

but they are a great idea, i'm bagging the back of my soarer next week and doing the front when i get the money, i also have a bagged and bodydropped hilux that sits flat front bumper to rear rollpan and adjustable air suspension is a great idea !!!

Hey Geoff,

Where abouts can you get these air cylinders from?
How do these compare to airbags, in terms of price, handling, and anything else of importance?

So what bags are you putting in the back of you soarer, v8 ones or aftermarket?

Ive had a pair of v8 ones for years iv been wanting to put in the back of my TT so i can dump it, but havent gotten around to going ahead with it...

Where are you getting the other parts for your installation?

Cheers,
Mike

hey mike,

you can buy a complete kit from "concord customs" in sydney, or you can call a place called "east side kustoms" up here in Newcastle and get some prices for them,

i bought some v8 air struts from another member on here last week, but i put them in and its not as low as i want, but my mate has a kit in his garage that i am using, so i will be selling these stock v8 ones if your interested, the have all fittings and airlines that you will need, and depending on what i get from my mate i can possibly sell you the stock v8 struts airlines, valves, airtank and compressor . .

everywhere ranges in price, but the handling of them i dont find to be much different if you can set it at the right pressure with swaybars, it will handles great, i had a bagged VS commodore wagon that handled great . .

the difference between airbags, airbag struts, and aircans/air cylinders is the shape of them, an air bag is a round rubber either double or triple convolted thing, airbag strut is an airbag with a strut thru it (stock ones) and an air cylinder is like an airbag strut only the bag is a long thin cylinder for cars like accords, civics and stuff where there isnt a whole heap of room . .

if you'd like more info since i dont get on here much or would like to work something out with all of my air gear give me a call or message on 0402 493 150

cheers,
Geoff

Nope, not true at all, Tim.

OLD soarer airbags may deflate at any time, high speed or parked.

Remember they are 20 years old now, not may cars go 20 years without having their shocks/suspension replaced.

Replace them with new soarer airbags and they are good for another 15-20 years without the defect/no adr compliance issues.

Cheers man, Is it easy to install tank to them or is there an easier way to make them raise and fall quicker?
