Been trying to find this little jingle bell type rattle for a bit and finally realised it's coming from the metal housing at the top of the right rear TEMS strut.
Sounds just like there is a decent size metal washer in there bouncing around.
Is this common on worn struts?
Could anyone give me an idea what it might be?
Suspension seems to still be working fine.
If it's something just come loose inside the housing is it possible to take the strut out and pull it apart?
Any advice most appreciated.

From memory i think theres a large circle type ring that is bolted down by the nuts?

I think thats the only thing that could be capable of rattling..

Take out the housing and have a look. Easy to do. Only have to undo 4 nuts.

Thanks guys.
So Vincent your talking about the three nuts that secure the top of the TEMS strut unit inside the boot and the one at the base of the unit down bottom.
How is the air line to disconnect and put back?
Delicate?
After my six hour drive and I recovery from the resulting arrival party I might get the chance to take a look.

Well
The six hour drive went well.
40 Deg C outside and no problems.
The rattle is still there tho so will investigate when I get time.
Not sure I'll be able to pull the top of the strut apart to find the rattle as it's got that bulbous metal housing but will have a look.

Jack, I am talking about the top of the strut in the boot. It is a double nut setup. The first set of nuts will remove the black cover only. You can undo the nuts that hold the cover in place without removing the wire and have a look inside. The noise might be one of the nuts had come loose.

Once you remove the cover you will see another set of nuts which actually hold the strut in place. Check to see if they are tight while you are at it.

Even with the double nut feature they have a habit of working loose.

Hey Vincent
Thanks for the reply.
I checked all those out on my initial go at it before I went away.
Nothing loose up there.
It's definately inside the metal casing at the top of the strut.
I'm going to have to get dirty and remove the thing, see if I can get in there and see whats loose.
Dont fancy my chances of getting into that upper casing though. Looks by design sort of factory made and sealed.
