Hi guys I need some help finding new bushes for my power steering rack. The ones that connect the power steering rack to the chassis if anyone can help me with a part number or somewhere I can order these from it would be much appreciated.

Daniel, thanks for that, I already have this one by using Amayama, This is the big GROMMET, STEERING RACK HOUSING, NO.1 passenger side,

but the ones I am after and not sure about their numbers are the other 2 smaller ones on the drivers side, I believe they come as a kit from toyota, but not sure about their numbers on the figure.

bare in mind I have the uzz32 and that figure is for the uzz31, don't suppose there would be any difference between the 2 model as far as the steering rack bushes, thank you for the reply.

Thanks Dave,
I already emailed soarerparts 8 days ago and so far like many others been saying in other threads, no one seems to be interested in answering back.

ok, so I got the 3 steering rack bushes for my uzz32.

and picked a place which was recommended on this forum, few days ago, I dropped in showed them the 2 small bushes and the big grommet, and showed them peter scott tutorial,

they said around one hour job at $ 110 to fit,
I booked it in, on arrival today, the estimated time jumped for no reason from 1 to 2 hours,

after 30 to 40 minutes, they rang me and said that that they are not able to do the top small bush because they have to remove the cross member to do that, and that they wouldn't bother doing that,

and that they would only fit the big grommet and the bottom steering bush,

anyway, after 2 hours and 20 minutes, they printed the invoice and charged me $165 for the big grommet and the lower bush

and said, ooh, we won't charge you for 3 hours, only 1.5 hours, I said well you only had the car for 2 hours 20 minutes anyway, so what's the 3 hours thing to fit 2 bushes, one of which is dead easy ( big grommet),

what do you guys think, was I ripped off or it is reasonable, not to mention that the owner was a bit rude and unfriendly.

Oki, the bottom one and D one are easy to fit even on a 32 , but the top one is quite hard I have found the best way to replace it is to remove the alternator .Dropping the sub frame is just to hard ,

Top bush on a 32 can be done from underneath without removing anything from memory. Bit fiddly, though.

I would have thought about 2 hrs to do all 3 would be about right.

Dave,
thanks for the tip, though as i remember reading the alternator on the uzz32 is quite a pain to remove as it got the suspension pump underneath.

Dan,
Do you have step by step instructions about how to do the top one without removing anything?

Jamie,

you did it yourself as a DIY or you mean your mechanic did for you, either way, can you explain the procedure so that if another workshop says we can't do , we have to remove cross member, I say no, you can do it this way, thanks

OK guys, looks like the nice guys at TurboTune on South road had severed/ crushed the low pressure POWER STEERING COOLER pipe at the location where it just crosses under the sump, I remember they called me an hour after they started work on the car, and told me that there is a power-steering leak which was never there before I took the car to them.

Now after being fed up with topping the reservoir every few days, I jacked the car and traced the leak to one of the 2 pipes (low pressure cooler pipe), it was crushed from the top and touching the bottom of the sump, I pulled it back from the sump to inspect damage and now it leaks quicker as the flow is not slowed by the bottom of sump,

My guess they never changed a power-steering rack bushes on a soarer or any other car, and they used a crow bar or something to push on the lines in order to put the big grommet ( passenger side) and the lower bush ( driver side), No wonder, they rang me and said we cannot do the top bush as it involves removing the cross member and that's a lot of work, we are not interested, guess, the mechanic after crushing my cooler line didn't feel like damaging more on the car,

I went to pirtek and Enzed and they both said, you need to take out the pipe, we don't do that, one estimated a mechanic would charge me 400 to remove the pipe and 150 to fix pipe.

For the people who removed the pipes and even engines out of the Soarer, any easy way to be able to remove that pipe without having to remove the engine, I can see there is a common bracket holding the pipes to the floor of the car just behind the big steering rack grommet ( passenger side)

How do you reach that bracket to unscrew?

Anyway to be able to remove the pipe without removing half the car, I am thinking of putting epoxy on the crushed pipe and see if that will seal it hopefully and I wont need to remove the pipe for repair.

Any ideas, thanks

Epoxy? No thanks.

Not the help you asked for, but Steve Kramp at Manta Automotive isn't far away and has done most jobs on Soarers if you want to talk with him about the cost of repairs.
