As I've got an older 80's Soarer it's not as quiet as the newer ones on the road. Has anybody had good experiences with any Tyres that are good for decreasing sound level inside? Or have had gone through many tyres and noticed some are better than others?
I'm thinking of putting sound deadening on but not sure where are good areas. Should I put it on the outside around the wheel arch? Or on the inside somewhere in the chassis? If anybody has experimented with this sort of stuff on other cars and noticed a difference i'd be keen to know.
Basically the goal is making the ride smoother and quieter. Only thing I can think of is sound deadening, tyre choice and probably replace all suspension bushes with new Rubber ones.

Speak to your tyre people. It is true some tyres have a lower road noise but usually they are the more expensive ones. Those big chunky 4WD types are the noiser.

Spent a long time on this myself ,ended up with TOYO TEO + tyres 16 ",used to drive lots of Soarers in my job so had a chance to test tyre noise, once you go over 18" it gets harder.

Tom, can you let me know how the Zetum 17s have worn for you so far, I've read the various posts and seen you have had them on for a while......are they still quiet? Thanks greg
Well I ended up with Achillies ATR Sport at the front and Toyo T1R in the Rear they are more performance orientated tyres but still running 16" Rims, will see how it goes.

Strip out the interior, and lay Dyna mat all over the floor pan. It works wonders. Also helps to give a better stereo sound. Do the doors as well(remove trims and stick on, and then refit trims) I find tyres do make some difference, but a lot of road noise comes from the quality, and type of bitumen used in road construction. Hotmix is very quiet.

Hi Boris, tyres make a difference in regards to being directional or non directional, the latter being less noisy. However the sound deadening makes massive differences. Choose a quality material(I use dynamat extreme) in specific areas and they will do wonders. Doing the whole interior will be costly, but pay attention to areas like doors, transmission tunnel, wheel arches and rear parcel shelf only and you should get away with it.
