Hey guys, any recommendations for an air con specialist in Melbourne that has worked on Soarers before?

Also does anyone have a diagram of the A/c unit for the soarer, i can only find diagnosis sheets.

Im looking for an air con specialist in Sydney. I think my compressor is on the way out...noisy on start, whines a bit at idle.
Anyone have an idea of what dollars im up for if I need a new compressor?
Any recommendations for someone to take a look?

Re: R12 gas

Ya dont have to bother hunting high and low for the old gas any more.

Obviously you cant use the newer R134a(hope thats the right code) without changing your AC components either.

There is a new gas available that is compatible with the old AC system hardware and is (so they say) 20% more effective that the old R12 which was more effective that the R134a.

Dont know if thats true or not, however I have had it put in my car and the AC is bloody cold! Thats the main thing. Was ~$100 all up including die.

All soarers should have had their R12 AC's converted to R134 when they arrived in Australia. From what I've read, the AC is degassed and reciever dryer is removed before the cars are shipped.

So if you get it regassed, you should just be able to get it filled with R134.

If you want to use the new R12 (HR12) I was told that the system would have to be converted back to R12. I'm not sure what the difference is.

I bought a new compressor from toyota. Was about $600 from memory. It was cheaper than getting my old compressor re-conditioned. They recharged the system using HR12 ( or FR12 - not sure which one it was now, i will have to check ), with no modifications needed to be done.

hey guys,

just dropping a note to any soarer guys without a/c in sydney.. Ive had 3 quotes for a regas over the last week, all about 290-380 for retrofit r134a for a 92 tt.. i rung this guy elliot from "all car air" he has done it for$165.. now im not an expert on this topic but from watching my bros regas on his r33 the day before, this guy was a lot more thorough..he has changed about 10 o-rings in my system vacuumed the gas out for like an hr put blankets all over my car e.t.c e.t.c new reciever drier/filter complete uv dye leak test (took about 30 mins) the result was air coming out at about 5.5 degress celcius..

overall i was very happy with the service and quality of the work, my air is working like new now and he did it at my home.. he does mobile jobs in sydney so if your in sydney definetly consider this guy when it comes to a/c repairs/servicing .. his number is 0418164234 (elliot)

if anyones got any questions feel free to ask me

cheers!

Peter, I got mine done at Profix of all places (Elizabeth). Was recommended by a fella I know. Quite happy with the job they did. I went back early and the car was covered up with more cloth than a new born baby. They also had a hoist set up for low cars which is handy, my front bar disagrees with most hoists.

Yeah come on Perth peeps! I need to get mine checked.. I had a brand new compressor fitted and HR12 re-gas about 12 months ago. When I first picked it up I didnt think it was as cold as it could be. Its fine if you have the fan on low and temp cranked at max cold. But as soon as you crank up the fan anywhere past 2 bars then it battles to keep up. Same goes when the car has been left out in the sun, it just takes ages to get cold. Im thinking maybe there is a leak somewhere. But we need someone we can trust in Perth to take a look at our Soarer Aircon needs! When taking fin temps, do you measure the temp at the fin when the fan is on high, low or medium?

Cheers!

I was doing an oil change on my car earlier this week and was dismayed to see one of the low pressure aircon pipes covered in green dyed oil and a very slow bubbling coming from the fitting.
Thanks to this thread I was able to take the car to B&N Automotive Air conditioning (70 Railway Rd Blackburn ph: 9878 2918) and they fixed the leak, checked the rest of the system and cleaned and regassed it with ER12 (same as HR12).
Very relieved! Nice guys, good service and used to dealing with Soarers.
