I've done a little searching but have not come up with a clear answer. In canada (at least in Manitoba) I am some what limited to what fuel I can run. My choices are regular unleaded 87, Premium 91, and a 10% Ethanol blend 94 octane. The Ethanol blend is pretty cheap and highest octane, is it safe to run in the 1uzfe?

Mike, it might be apples and oranges. Over here, the number rating is RON which is an energy measure as opposed to Octane which is a measure of how hard it is to ignite the fuel. Higher octane means less pinging for example,

So your Premium 91 may in fact be the better fuel in terms of power and efficiency.

There has also been some discussion about the effects on Ethanol on various components in the fuel system over a period of time, and our cars were designed and built before Ethanol was much of an issue.

Don't use ethanol. Go with premium 91 and put more octane or additive in

I'm with Simon, and keeping away from ethanol until I have to use it. It might be perfectly fine, but I'm not a fan of learning things the hard way.

Your premium 91 is (should be) the equivalent to what we call 96 over here, so I wouldn't be bothered adding anything either.

yeah in austrlia we use the Research Octane Number, whereas in the US and canada, i think they use the RON plus MON(motor octane number) and divide by two to get thier headline value (pump value).

Thanks guys......I have found 92 octane here at one of the gas stations and it's reasonably priced only about ten cents more per litre then regular 87. I'm not really too interested in taking chances with this car, I can't exactly go to a wrecker and find a new motor if I need one.

I've been using Shell V power 91 octane in my Soarer for the summer with no complaints. I've heard bad things about ethanol blended 94 from Husky/Mohawk.

Well as of Jan. 1/2008 all fuel sold in Manitoba must contain 10% Ethanol! So I guess it's going to have to be ok.
