I was having a brain fade time and couldn't remember the exact correctness names !!
So we have outer tie rods like the pic with the left and right and then the rack rod ends like in the last pic .
The way to go is to get the whole rack rebuilt , I get them done for $600.00 , that's every seal , boot and completely striped cleaned and rebuilt including rod ends but not tie rods , a great price .

Wow. Where do you get the rack done? I dont know anywhere in Darwin thats capable of doing it right first time :-)

And just to confirm: Steering ball joint: that would be the ball joint in the outer tie rods yeah? (in the first pic with the left and right rods)

I'm dyin man! Did it today, but not in time for a wheel alignment. Did tie rods, lower ball joints, lower control arm bushes (took an hour to get them pressed out, then cleaned up, the greased and new ones pushed back in, it's a killer to get the outer shell. Of the bush out without a big
enough socket to use as a pin. Ended up
hacsawing the outer shells out. Did upper control arms, piece of piss hardest thing was getting those air lines back into the struts. That's after
pants taking them off. Advice: wait for
the hissing to stop. Saves on dry cleaning.

Went for a spin just now .......... Like a new front end :-)

Dammit, steering rack is still un-alignable (if thats a word).

Still at least the camber and castor alignment went well. Just the rack bushes to do and of course, rebuild the rack while its out.

Anyone reccommend a place that knows how to treat a nice rack appropriately?

Also, swaybar (or stabilizer as the part name states) bushes are a real treat for the car. Easy to fit, and make a noticeable difference to body roll. I think these are one bush that could certainly be replaced with a harder and often yuckier polyurethane type bush. The harder the better perhaps.

Well finished the Tranmission Mount, Engine Mounts, and Steering rack bushes part of the job today.

Probably the most noteable changes to driving dynamics. The sound level from the engine has gone way, way down. Its silent. The gear changes are much much faster and smoother, and you dont notice them, almost at all much when cruising up to speed.

My tran mount was completely in two pieces!! Whiles under there I noticed the front coupling for the tailshaft is really really worn, so thats next. The rear looked to be in gppd nick, but was showing signs of wear, so ill do it as well at the same time.

The steering is so nice and smooth now, really big increase.

I think Ill add some new airbags now to complete the undercarriage work, and then hit the interior.

Ill never sell this car now :-) In love with it, renewing all the rubber components and stress absorbing parts is just remarkeable.
