Alright, About 3 months ago now my celsior started making a mystery belt noise cold or hot (sounded like it was slipping).

The noise was coming from the drive belt area as it would go if the belt was removed, Thinking it was the drive belt tensioner!

I decided to do the timing belt while I had another car to drive. So into the shed I worked on it when I had free time.

While doing this I replaced timing belt, Idler and timing belt tensioner pulleys as well as the water pump.

Put it all back together with another drive belt tensioner and new drive belt.

Started it up then about 2 mins later the same belt noise! FU$k

Removed the drive belt gone again, I looked at the alternator, power steering and a/c, the noise wont change while loading up then components either! (also put new bearing if the fan pump)

Looking more closely at the drive belt tensioner it seems like the belt is sitting off center more toward the back of the pulley but this is another I have put on. (low km one from toyrolla)

Am I that unlucky that both are stuffed and worn out?

Or could it be the harmonic balancer rubber worn and slightly letting the belt to twist to make this noise?

Has anyone had this problem???
I'm sick of thinking at this stage haha

How many notches on the alternator pulley? If the belt is sitting to the front notch (if you have a wide pulley) then it is out of alignment as it needs to be to the rear of the pulley. (closest to the engine).
This can happen if the alternator is not original and has been changed to a (later?) model. This problem will also cause the belt to wear out quickly as well.

I'm betting its the harmonic balancer on the way out.

Could you get a picture of the Ballancer when you take it out, I want to see how one in bad condition looks like.

When its in the kind of condition that its making squeaking noses, you will be able to separate the pulley from the balancer by hand, which you shouldn't be able to do with a good balancer.

Did you buy a new balancer? If so, where from & how much.
I'm having the same problem.
Thanks

I paid $160NZ for mine off a GS300 and picked it up myself, so $135 sounds good.
