Hi all,

Just got myself a 1994 UZZ31 SC400.
Previous owner had it converted from auto to manual with a T-56 6 speed gearbox. And previous to him put in an aftermarket airbags controller to go higher or lower than stock, but I prefer to just use the stock high/low values. Really convenient for going up driveways
Digital dash, EMV, reverse camera, HIDs.. all the good stuff.
All the electrics work, with the obvious exception of TV Tuner and GPS, which both technically function.. if I was in Japan.

And 124,000 non-genuine kms!
There's a sticker under the hood that says the timing belt was changed at 143,000kms almost 10 years ago.. so at some point the dash must've been changed too I guess. My best estimate puts it at around 185,000 assuming it was true at the time the belt was changed.
But mechanically it's top notch, cosmetically still great, only interior damage through age is a single cracked air vent in the centre and the previous owner spent much more than I ended up paying for it (top guy, very friendly and honest)

He even gave me a set of LED tail lights that I may install soon, just need to find a good method (preferably not a resistor) of making it flash normal speeds.

Looks like a very clean car! If looked after properly, UZZ31s drive more comfortably than most modern cars. Plenty of knowledge on this forum when it comes to electrical issues. I believe if you replace the capacitor in the flasher module your lights will flash normally, I’m sure someone else will know more about that though.

They appear to just be series 3 lights with LED strips glued in underneath the cover. Everything about the housing suggests that it used to have bulbs and was custom modified

Hi Caitlyn,

If you're near Brizzy i'd be happy to help with the brakes etc. You can buy flasher relays that use a timer instead of a bi-metallic strip which flash faster due to the lower current draw of LED's.

The car looks great by the way, I always wanted a manual V8 (turbo or supercharged tho..)

Thanks Tai,
If you have a link to those relays please do share, only info I've found is either resistors or changed capacitor. But I need to pull out the left headlight soon to reseal as it leaks water and was thinking of putting in LED indicators in there too.

A digital relay would make the whole thing plug and play.

Brake system is working flawlessly at the moment with near new looking discs and pads all round, but I'll keep you in mind if I ever need help with it.

Next service is due January 2020, and that's the 10 year mark on the timing belt too so if you or someone else here can do belts I'll happily pay for that. I'm willing to help out with it too, just been 8 years since I last worked as a mechanic and rarely did more than services/warranty replacements so would rather not go alone (or pay a dealer thousands for that matter)

Something like this.. Although I dont know 100% if the soarer uses this style of flasher relay..

If you would like to try changing the capacitor I can also solder (ex electronics tech)

RE: helping with brakes, i meant the brake light install ;) but happy to help with all things really. I have decent tools and ramps etc and have done timing belts on both the v8 and 1J etc.

Haha, sorry I should have realised you meant the lights.
I haven't measured the bolt pattern yet but I have a feeling it's going to be the one that requires elongating a bolt hole or two.
Apart from that, whoever made the modifications put the original connectors back on so it should just plug right in.

I'm planning on heading to Jaycar tomorrow for some audio parts so I'll check the relay and see if it matches any they have in stock.

Good to know that you've done timing belts, I may contact you later in the year when it's due to be done
