Reccently while drive my soarer home.. ( UZZ31.. Reepas old car ) I felt a sudden loss off power. pulled over to find the car sounded like it was running on about 4 cylinders. I drove it home, but slowly, as there was a massive lack of power, and was running really rich. Took it to the mechs, no error codes came up on there scan tool. Tt appeared the leads where arcing across one another, so first they were replaced, as where the plugs. No change. So Next was timing belt, witch was a notch out. while that was being replaced my mechanic noticed the rotor buttons where cracked badly, so replaced them also. Still no change. So anyone had similar problems and know what the problem might be? Also, after it happened, when u rev the car above about 2200rpm, the tacho line goes backwards and then vanishes but the car keeps revving.. any help would be much appriciated, Thanks

Perhaps a AFM or ECU problem. There are a few threads on AFM problems, have a read and they may help you or point you in the right direction.

Air Flow Meter or Coils or Igniters? Did the Cat Light come up on the dash? If it drops 4 cylindrs its normally and Igniter thing. WOnt run that bank so it dumps massive amounts of fuel out the exhaust. Which can melt the Cats.

Steven,I have the same problem with my car.I thought that I could solve the problem myself as I have 2 cars the same [both uzz32]. I have changed the following from the good car,but am unable solve the problem. plugs.leads.igniters.coils.ecu.afm. The good car runs perfectly with the parts from the other car? Hopfully someone can advise or my car is on a trailer to neil in camberra.

Did you want to try a different ecu? I can pop down tomorrow morning with mine and see if that works, if you want. Just PM me tonight. Its not going to hurt my car if i unplug the ecu right? Edit: damn my slow typeing. But the offer still stands if that doesnt work

Dave had this same problem on his Celsior , I suspected it was a coil and so it was , the one down the side that gets the hottest , there's not too many items that can cut how 1/2 the system , it's very unlikely that four plugs or leads will fail at the same time , so that limits you to things that will cause one side to drop out , rotor , cap , coil lead or coil with coil being the most likely so that's where you start .

The Coils worked! Finally i can hear that V8 rumble again! Thanks for all your help guys. It seems theres still something funny..the car now surges. Even at idle the engine surges.. almost like its camming or something, kind of hard to explain, but ill get that checked out tommorow.

This 'surging' of the car is quite concerning..And It seems to be miss firing still, so its back the the shop tommorow morning and hopefully I'll have it back later on saturday, as the mechanic felt a little bad after giving me the car back when its not running 100%, and then next week the shift kit goes in! Speaking of witch, i sent Lew an email about the shift kit about a week ago and haven't herd back yet, does anyone know if he has gone on holidays or something? I'm just busting to get it ordered. And sorry bout the 'sms speak' Pete, force of habbit, I'll be more carefull.

Steven, I know Eagle had a bad batch of leads recently... might pay to re-check the leads & the spark plug gap. They could be causing the surging and the misfire. As for Lew, he says he replied to your email Give him a call on 0425 749 436 if you like, but he said to just order the kit through MV... just as easy

Hey Rob, thanks for the input. The leads i got from Repco, were TopGun, and didn't fit the car properly, so my mechanic made up some custom leads. (Not sure how good they are..) But I'm going to get the plug gap checked, and also I'm thinking of trying the igniters, so michael if your watching this space and are willing to let me try your igniters, let me know

TopGun leads used to be too long. They told me they had rectified the issue ages ago, but apparently not.

I think they just use the ones form the LS400 Peter, which as you say are too long...

As long as you know how to get them in and out without breaking them i have no problem. Just hit me up on msn so we can work out a time. |

Well Michael came down earlier today to swap the igniters over, but it didn't change, so they can be ruled out. Thanks mike. Did find something interesting, when we disconnected Mikes AFM, he gets and Engine Electrical System error on his dash, but when i disconnect mine, no error comes up. To me this indicates a faulty ECU? Once again, i need some advice and opinions. AFM or ECU?

Went down to Michael's today, and swapped our ECU's over. With His ECU in my car, i get an error message when i unplug the AFM, but with my ECU we don't get the error message in either cars.. so my ECU is not 100% but it proved not to be the problem. My mechanic came to to have a look, and the second spark plug he took out.. well it had no gap at all! So we fixed that and now shes back purring and no more surging! Just wanna say thanks again Michael for your help, and just because the cars fixed, don't be a stranger And thanks Rob for the suggestion, becuase you where right

Hey Steven I had the same problem last year, HOWEVER the cats were stuffed, and I never replaced however after having the rear main done well I thought I'd change the headers to Neils, well the cats that were in there had collapsed and were no good, in a word ratshit. Considering you drove it (don't know for how far) But I drove it like 2kms and they were stuffed. Also I'd probably suggest getting your ecu tested. Mine came back with Air flow meter problem, ignition problem, injector problem, speed and transmission miss communications. If your AFM isn't working correctly you'll use alot more fuel then what your suppose to. I think it is $90 bucks to have it looked at and tested.
