Hi All,

Need some help, I have a v8 uzz31 with an issue once the car is warmed up. When I start the car, everything is fine, put the car into drive / reverse no issue. When the car has warmed up, it idles fine in park / neutral, but when I put it into drive the revs drop to about 500 rpm and the car sounds like it is going to stall and will not move under its own power.

I have had the ECU refurbished, new plugs, igniters, leads, distributors, drained the fuel tank and put fresh fuel in.

I thought it could have been a trans issue, but its fine when cold in drive or reverse.

I need some help guys if anyone has any ideas. Thanks in advance

Sorry I should have added that to list, I have replaced both coil packs, could there be a problem with the connector? The other thought I had could it be a fuel supply problem / bad sensor due to it only being a problem when it is warm?

Michael, disconnect the plug on the Air flow meter and tell me what it does once warm. Also have you replaced the ecu temp sensor, green one.

Turns out the refurbished ECU was faulty, had a spare one and no issue.

Seems to be a lot of so called Re-furbished ECU's failing , I have heard of 3 just this week, wonder who claims these are re-furbished when they obviously are not, otherwise they should last at least 20 years + .

or it could've been something else that went bad that wasn't replaced during the refurb?

Likely some residual leakage hiding in the ECU under parts that's spread around and contaminated other circuits.

Had that happened to a couple I've fixed a while back, learned what to watch out for.

I always clean mine with Isopropyl and crc contact cleaner, then bake in oven for 30 min or so at low temp. spotless and less all contaminations and moisture. Then I run them up loaded while looking over them with infra temp scope to find any hot spots that should not be there, this also finds any bad solder joints.

Hi Michael,

It's the ECU. 99% sure.
Had same problems before mine died about 7 months later.

Certain 'experts' are not using the correct capacitors when refurbishing ECU's, causing them to fail in weeks, or just never work.
