Hi Everyone,
I recently bought this 1991 Soarer L, and I found Soarer Central is very helpful. I am currently looking for the owner’s manual and just had this thought of putting the manual on a CD and posts it on the web. I know it’s a time consuming thing to scan pages, but anyone interested in, I can put them on a CD nicely.

Chaminda.

Very clean & original Soarer you have there

If you mean the WORKSHOP manual, then this is in fact available on CD from
http://www.f1kits.com/ with is run by Jeff Harper.

If you mean the owners handbook type manual, then I don't think it'd be worth the hassle for the return you'd get, as an English translated handbook is available from http://jpnz.co.nz/xcart/customer/product.php?productid=42&cat=2&page=14

Hi Don
Thank You very much for the comment on my car and thanks for the pages you sent about manuals.

What I meant before was, posting the owner's manual for free on this page. If anybody can send the pages from the manual then I can make a web page with index and post it in here. I'am not sure whether it legal or not.

It's cheap enough to buy from Toyota NZ. Think it was $35 or something last time I looked.

Correct. I've just bought the two owner manuals (i.e. not the workshop manual). One is for the car the other is for the EMV. $35 each plus postage.

Chaminda, Dave, reproduction of Toyota copyright material is what you are seeking. Further, translations of these manuals involved work, and one presumes you do not believe that work should go unrewarded, both of you apparently being employed.

You can buy the owner's manual. You can obtain translated workshop manuals under certain conditions. Try hard not to look like newbie rip-off merchants.

That's a really good idea Dave. Good introduction too I might add.

When you have it ready, can you please make it available to all of us either via download or free post CD. Many thanks.

I will keep an eye out for your announcement.

I would think the owner's manual is copyrighted since Toyota is still selling them.

I could be wrong but be careful. Violation of copyright is not cheap.

It is one thing taking a photo copy for a mate but making it public on the web is probably not a good idea.

You know what I wish... I wish there was a Haynes manual for the Soarer. For the clueless weekend knuckle bleeder like me, they were always a godsend with their easy step by step instructions for all the common jobs on a car you could think of. Plus they were tough enough to withstand being hurled across the garage floor when frustration levels rose.

As a former Mini owner, I gotta say I'm not a fan of the HBOL (Haynes Book Of Lies as it was referred to on the mini forums). Filled with useful instructions like, for example, a clutch change:
1. Remove starter motor.
2. Remove gearbox.
3. Replace clutch.
4. Reinstall in reverse order.

Thankyou Haynes, for making that SO much clearer.

Heh, I have two left at home - Triumph Tolido/Dolomite 1850/Sprint and Triumph TR7. Both no longer of any use other than sentimental. Both were very useful at one time though. Generally for big jobs they did over-simplify by listing as you say 1) remove starter motor - but if you then went to look up "removing starter motor" it would actually have a full list of instructions. It did mean you got dirty fingermarks all over the book from flipping back and forward.

My sister had the Jag XJ6 one, and that was pretty useless, but I think that was more because the car was just too damn hard to work on than anything.

I wish there was a haynes/gregory's for our cars. I have had one for every other car I've owned and found them to be great.

Guess there wasn't too much demand for them. Can't see Mr and Mrs new lexus owner getting under the car too often.
