i have a retro 87 soarer and i leave for work around 5am, and when im leaving the driveway and start heading down the road my speedo starts making some sort of scratching noise and it speeds up as i go faster, but it only does it for a couple of mins and while im goin under 35kmph, but it wont make a sound when the temp warms up a bit. the sound isnt loud but i know its there it sounds like a mouse trying to get out or somethin' WTF is this sound?????

Step 1: Stop

Step 2: Remove mouse from speedo

Step 3: Drive on.

Sorry Charles, I don't know the answer - someone with more than half a brain will be along anytime soon...

Charles,

Contact rodents-r-us.com and they will will remove the vermin from your speedo

Other than that, like Alan, I can be of no assistance.

Charles,

definately temperature related...once temperature increases enough the cats on your car will start working and hence the mouse scratching noises will stop (as they don't wish to get caught)

Hahahaha

refer to posts above for more info

At a guess, it uses a mechanical speedo and the gears and stuff are making the noise, or possible the wire turning in the cable.

If it's an electronic speedo however, then refer to the posts above.

I have had a similar issue with a speedo cable - the inner cable was dry. I pulled it out, poured oil down it and problem was solved.

It may be an electronic readout, but it could well be cable driven.

I know the early JZX81's are electronic readout, and cable driven, but the late JZX81's are electronic driven as well.

I've just never been sure about the early Z20 Soarers.

The Z20 is a driven cog with a speed sensor on it at the gearbox. 4 pulse i think.
