I am finding this forum very troublesome to use in comparison to others I have joined. I would love to see some upgrades since I find Soarer Central to be the most informative Soarer forum. Simple stuff like a link to unread replies to our posts would make it much more user friendly. Threads should open on the first page and the other page numbers displayed so we can select it. I think this forum is kinda ancient and a new look would be welcome :-)

I concur with Dave. In my experience of the various forum and BBS packages available Soarer Central is certainly one of the better systems.

It may not have the same "cutting edge" tech in it as most Web 2.0 setups however what we have here is quite appropriate for the content in my opinion.

If you are looking for new/unread posts then you can click the "New Posts" button in the top left of the menu at the top of every page.

New Posts lists threads with unread topics and posts since you last clicked it, and clicking on the first post in such a topic takes you straight to it, give or take the fact that it does not cope well with pictures.

You also have to consider that Oz Soarer forums do not charge any money for access to all of their facilities, so if you are asking the Admin (Pen) to switch to new software, I hope you can dream up a persuasive reason why he should take time out from making a living to incur that extra cost and effort.

That last sentence was not a flame, just explaining things.

Simple answer is that promised software upgrades have never materialised so we are pretty much stuck with the way it works now short of heavy custom work.

Is it actually works quite well now though, especially if you explore it's features rather than just want it to look like what you are used to.

So, if an upgrade became available, it would be implemented.

I find this type of Forum easy to use.
Some of the other forums that use different formats have too much happening on one page
and can be confusing (for me).

I think the site works fine the way it is also, but I think it would be good in the PARTS/CARS FOR SALE sections to separate the STATES just like it is in the EVENTS section in which the parts or cars are located so everyone can look for parts locally first before looking in another state. The way it is at the moment I find it a little time consuming clicking through the parts section for example only to find that they are in different states. IMO it would be easier and quicker to look for items if you separate them. The way it is now you have no idea where the things listed for sale are until you click on them.

I've been on a few sites and this is by far the best.
Keep it up Pen.

Didn't know that other forums charged. In that case, this one is pretty brilliant for free :-)

It ain't broke............so why fix it!

Peter has done a sterling job of what started some years ago as an online hobby because of his enthusiasm for the Soarer (and related cars).

I KNOW that he spent many, many hours modifying and tweaking the basic package to the point that it is today............Believe me, it ain't no off the shelf plug n' play package.

And he did all that while juggling the needs of family and his ACTUAL income earning job.

I totally agree with Dave Hart and others, that this is by far the simplest/easiest site to navigate.............and it's FREE!

This is NOT having a go at folks who've posted about possible forum changes, rather it is providing a bit of background to SC, and how it came into being.

Bloody well done Peter.............Keep it up!

I'm yet to see a car enthusiast support forum as informative, user-friendly, comprehensive and well laid-out as this one. It's a pity too, because, when the time comes to buy my next car, I'd like to have the same sort of online support that I've had here.

Leave it as is Mr Nitschke. :-)

Haha! I learnt that when I pulled the heads off the old UZZ31 to replace the valve seals! Waste of time - though educational!

Hey Cameron - constructive ideas always welcome I'm sure.

A timely reminder to thank Peter and all contributors from day one for their ongoing efforts.

One of the main reasons I was comfortable buying a Soarer is because of the community of support through this site.

Works for me - agree - "It ain't broke............so why fix it"!
