I am working on a UZZ31. The short story is I now need a new dash display panel and some ideas as to what might have done. I don't need the whole dash -just the section at the top covered by 2 metal panels. I have blown the backlights for each gauge..

I pulled the motor/box out to deal with a low compression issue. Apparently in disconnecting/reconnecting harness to r&r the head some wires have been shorted.
The car is on the road so there are no ECU issues but the speedo was not working and the temp gauge was reading full scale. Then the fuse blew. No gauge display at all.
I replaced the fuse in the kick panel with a higher rating and started trying to track down the faults. Display back up with same issues. Went for a drive and when I returned there was that horrible burning smell from the dash. Eventually I found that I had burnt out terminals inside the vacuum tubes around the displays.
Help....

Thanks for chasing my post up. I have been using my phone as a Speedo. I still need one. I bought another one and tried to track the problem down. I matched up the display board to the original board at the back so that I had the original km showing. Burnt out again. I do not need the full dash pod but I do need the 2 electronic boards. The display board is at the top of the pod and the control panel behind the white plastic at the back.
I have to change both and visually check the engine harness to be absolutely sure before I plug it in.
If you have one available it would be great.

You need to make sure the cluster you install is a scroll cluster if you have a uzz3x otherwise if you use a pov pack cluster from another model it will burn out, the fuel senders are different.

So all you need is the VFD panel (top mirrored section) and the LCD / electronics panel (the lower section).

I have both sections from a uzz30/31.

What year is yours as they were slightly different from 92.5 onwards, early dash had no temp, later dash had temp display next to the clock.

Just what I'm after. Definitely a scroll cluster I need.
VIN number is UZZ31 0009177. This makes it mid July 1992, I think. Full air bags, abs-no traction control. My donor has TRAC but I will try and sell that setup soon.
The part numbers on front and back boards in the LCD are 457652-2501. The original board has no LED for TRC OFF, the donor board has the LED. I can't see any damage on the original board but I am not keen on using it just in case. Is it just the LED absent and no other changes or not? FIIK!
If you have a board same number and no LED I will take it to make sure, if not I only the VFD board.
I hope I haven't confused the issue even more.

I believe i have both boards (see pics), the LCD board has the light bulb for the TRC as the clusters are all the same, they just remove the bulbs that are not needed (generally in uzz30 models they will remove the air suspension bulb).

Luckily for me, I no longer need the panels.
I unfolded the LCD panels on that had failed and discovered a burnt out track at the ribbon between the two.

If you zoom in on my pic of the VFD you can see black spots in the left corner of each display. My assumption was that each of them had failed. In desperate hope I connected the three panels and plugged them into my donor. Christmas lights at last!
I fitted it up to the good one and got a full display. Started up and the tacho worked. Then the fuse blew. Since then I have tested each wire of the orange plug for earth short-circuit and interrupted and checked. IGN on display, start motor and the fuse blows inside 5 seconds. It might be something else that fuse supplies so I will check what that is tomorrow - no kick panel fuse cover so I will look it up. Speedo sensor needs checking also.
Seems like I will have to buy bulk 15 amp fuses before I find the problem.
