Hello,

I have read a few posts about similar conversions but would like to know some specifics.

I will be using a R154 Gear box out of a soarer or supra with a custom bell housing (nz shop makes them) and supra clutch. Peddle box will be from a SC300.

Problem I have is the computer Ect/Ecu - I have heard you can use a piggy back computer to solve this and I wondered where I can get one from. I am located in NZ but if needed can purchase from Aussie.

Also do I need to know anything more about the electronics with the UZZ31 and this type of conversion.

The TV is not working at the moment as it has broken so I cannot see the Air conditioning controls.Do I need to know anything about this with the conversion.

Once I have the plan for the conversion (electronics is the issue right now) I will be able to start the mods.

I am about to do a similar conversion to a UZZ30.

The aftermarket bellhousings don't have provision for a pull clutch from what I can see so most people run a push clutch and a hydraulic release bearing.

There are plenty of strong push clutches available though and I can't see any disadvantages to running a push versus a pull.

The R154 speed sensor is compatible with the factory dash and all that should need to be addressed is some resistors for the solenoids and the neutral switch and reverse wiring. I don't think there is any need to run a piggy back or any problems with the EMV setup.

I have a set of pedals and front half of driveshaft from a JZA80 Supra and they appear the same.

Matt.

You didn't read the subject line Nathan - no factory manual V8's.

Nice that sounds good.

I have found a few diagrams for the ECU so I should be able to figure that out.

Yeah its sad but no manuals for the V8's.

Also I wasnt sure if the pedals from a JZA80 would work but thats great thanks for the help makes it alot easier to find the gear.

Hope to have this sorted and complete in the next few months.

Any other advice from people would be awesome :-)

I have been dealing with A1 turbo's who do a complete bellhousing for the R154 and also Choke on the Smoke Racing, both have a wide range of bits.

This is going to be great.

I have owned a few cars -- from Evo's to GTiR subarus and I think converting this to manual is going to be one of the best and most different cars I have had. Thats the whole point its different while looking good and sounding the business and going well too (maybe not as hard as the Evo5)

Any more idea's or advice on what I need to look out for while doing this would help - no doubt I will come across to odd curve ball.

Also will the Diff out a JZA80 work or should I look at a aftermarket and what ratio's should I look for?

Cheers :-)

LSD from an atmo manual supra will work. The 6 speed used a completely different housing that wont mate up to the soarer chassis.

Anyone got more info on getting the ECU to run without the auto trans? I'm currently going the other way - 1UZ into a manual Supra, using the factory Soarer ECU.

I saw Matt mentioned that you have to wire in some resistors where the solenoids were? Is this necessary to get the engine running properly?

Stumbled across this thread again while searching for something else.

If anybody is interested, the Soarer combined Engine / Trans ECU is perfectly happy running the motor without the auto box - just bridge the Neutral Start Switch or hook it up to your clutch pedal switch so that it will only start with the clutch disengaged (you'll need to do it this way to keep the cruise control working). No need for a Crown ECU at all. :-)

Andrew, let me just say, you're a champ for puttin a 1UZ in a Supra!
Seen the vids on youtube.
Your profile says your a mech eng student? So am I, what year you in?
Also, if you don't mind me asking how much did it cost for the conversion (doing it yourself obviously) plus the manual conversion?
