I was talking to my boss today about the M90 I have bought and the manifold kit etc from Richwoods. We got talking about how much boost it would run and he asked what the pressure relief valve was set at. I sort of gave a silly look and he realised I had no idea. He use to race years ago and said if the engine has a big backfire and no pressure relief valve fitted, you can blow the supercharger or manifold off as the expanding gases can not escape through the supercharger. I'm not talking about the bypass valve here, so whats your thoughts. I can not recall anyone mentioning it and nothing found with a search.

Neil,
Please correct me if I am wrong, but with an M90 doesn't the inward air get sucked through the air filter, through the throttle body, into the supercharger intake, compressed past the s/c rotors and into the inlet manifold. Thus, if you have a backfire occur, the backfire enters the manifold and then hits the rotors ????
I understand if it was a vortech type s/c that it would first pass through the throttle body, but I can't work out what you mean in your reply. Do you mean the backfire would simple pass through or around the s/c rotors and then into the throttle body - no harm ????

Kevin, Its a small M90 mate.. Not a Drag Blower. A Backfire is going to be no more fatal than in an NA. Mine has been running for 4 years now.Ain't never had a backfire.
M90 also has a large air gap in the rotors, not like a Twin Screw that has an internal compression.
Show me a manufacturer that has installed an M90 / M112 and has installed a * Blow Back * valve !

Just to add to what Neils saying Kevin, there's little chance of a backfire even happening low overlap cams and sequential injection. As stated, unless its a race motor breathing deep, making big power there's no such precaution to take.
