Thats cause the engines run a more agrresive timing curve when colder i think Anish. Joshua, Sounds like a possible Headgasket issue. Could have blown between the cylinder in Number 5 and an Oil Gallery... That will cause some major blow by.. Or the rings have shat themself or some bad piston damage in that cylinder.

Josh you could put a little oil in N5 ...and see if you can get a better reading...that would point towards rings?...my guess is one of the ex valves burnt out ...DR

so an exhaust valve could cause this? i just purchased a new head and valve seal kit so i'll be getting my mechanic to pull it apart soon and find out

If it's not sealing, yes. I would have tested it further before investing in gaskets in case the block is a goner.

I would also work out how this happened in the first place. Was this a freak failure or was there a problem that caused this (tuning ect). You don't want to go through the expense and time of replacing/rebuilding the motor to have this happen again.

Josh after reading this thread I hope for your sake that it will just be a gasket that has blown out or split.

yeah i hope that too Brett. really hoping! the spark plugs were pretty close to being black. they've all been replaced now. hasn't been tuned as yet cause i haven't installed all the new toys since she hasn't been running good. apparently there is a guy in town here who has a couple of 1UZ's lying around so if its stuffed i will have to talk to him and work out a price. if a valve stem seal is gone could it cause this problem?

Josh not really....air is escaping from valve seats/piston rings/gasket as Brett says we all hope its a head gasket ..good luck..DR

alright. thanks guys. well ones on the way so hopefully that's what it is. i really don't wanna replace this engine. its only done 127,000 km so its still pretty young for a 92 engine

| from what ive been told.... bore is no good... (hey josh) (you were signed on as me) shes scored pretty deep.... old man reckons you can replace just one piston.. but from what i have heard in my experience with engines is that if you replace one you should replace all and get the bores all whoned out..... having the head grinded and re-seated would be a smart idea too am i right? and the cheaper of the two is to get another 2nd hand engine.. but in the long run it would be better to know exactly what you have on the inside... | Yes i think Miles is right .....but what caused the piston to burn like that ?? was it running weak due to the blower? |

If it was running untuned with the blower then its definitely caused the problem.

yer it didn't have any after market stuff on it at all besides the blower (4psi) and a mapasy fuel regulator well it was only one piston that got mcf**ked.. is that just luck or do people think the others would be just as weak?? Werner

Wouldn't be surprised if the AFR's were in the 15's under boost. I'm tuning a twin turbo 1UZFE at the moment and it was leaning out above 15:1 under light boost before things were settled with the Emanage.

just to update everyone on what the problem was in case someone else gets these symptoms. my number 5 pot detonated incorrectly and melted a small piece on the piston itself which then made it mix wrong and play silly buggers. no. 5 pot was a little messy, scored the pot pretty badly and did the rings too. all and all i'm doing an engine swap now and may just re build the other engine if possible and keep it just in case or sell it. unsure which i'll do yet. ps. not a mechanic and can't say i'm the best with engines but this is what i figured out from my understanding of what i saw and the mechanic said
