anyone have any idea why smoke would be coming out of my oil breather?! and when i open the oil cap smoke comes out there too. i did an oil change and filter change and no change. it was at the painters sitting for a while only being turned on and off every now and then and i went there and ran her for a bit on a few occasions. anything would be a great help. i need it to be running properly because she's booked in for a tune and more psi at the end of this month

Which oil breather? Do you have you PCV system hooked up as per factory or did you put a filtered atmospheric vent on the breather connection?

You'll get smoke from the engine while it's running if you don't have a vacuume line connected to extract the blowby gases and oil mist.

When you just shut it down and open the oil filler the smoke will be from blow by and oil mist as the engine is still hot.

valve stem seals? they will let smoke out the exhaust on startup after the car sits for a while.

pcv is on the other side. you'll want to verify the pcv system is hooked up correctly for a supercharged application. also make sure the pcv valve is good and the hose is not blocked. smoke out the oil cap suggests excessive blowby in the crank case. either a bung pcv system or buggered rings. need to know where that breather goes to.

It shouldn't have a breather on there either it should be connected into the throttle body there should be a fitting there for it
If everything is connected where it should be the engine will run better
Well this is what I found anyway

Yeah, what Gary said.

The smoke that is coming out of the breather would normally be plumbed back into the intake to be burnt in the engine.

Bottom of the throttle body. There should be an elbow to connect it to. I'm guessing yours will have it blocked off with something.

The connection is not easy to make unless you have very small hands or remove the throttle body.

also my car was idling like crap and i thought it was plugs and it wasn't, then leads and it wasn't either so then i cleaned the rotors and distributor caps and she idles good again but when i get to about 2000 rpm she sputters again and i'm thinking this has something to do with why that breather is smoking cause it never use to

also guys i pulled my throttle body off and found two lines that look like vacuum lines but had nothing attached. can someone clear this up? that breather runs there cause the supercharger line runs into the throttle body.

That could be the Coolant Lines or EGR lines. Used to run hot coolant to increase the temp of the throttle body to increase cold start and cold running as it heats up the intake temps... ALso helps with emmisions.

Alot of people bypass them so it doesnt heat up the throttle body! Alot of TT boys do this mod on theirs as well ( i have :-) ).

I was just talking to Lew about bypassing that on my car yesterday. Why do we try and get all this forced cold air through the throttle body only to heat it up again.

The breather should connect to the black elbow below the one you have circled on the right hand side.

It should currently be blocked off since your breather is vented to atmosphere.

The two you have circled are coolant lines.

i have put it back just how it was. that elbow on the throttle body goes back to the rear of the supercharger. so what are all the possibilities for that breather to be smoking? what ever is causing that is more than likely causing the problem i am having with it

Could be anything from a stuck open valve to a scored bore. Probably not a hole through the middle of the piston though. A good leakdown and borescope operator can probably tell you.

Had any work done to the actual block? Might be cheaper to just throw yours away and get a decent second hand long block. They are generally pretty cheap because there isn't much demand.

Might have taken it for a fang without warming the engine up. Mine pings until it reaches operating temperature.
