East Coast Customs had a dyno day today, and as I was just spectating and there was some spots available, I put mine on to see if if it was going any better.
Couldn't hurt, anyway got some improved results,
so I am very happy with the result, even though it was a stinking hot day.

Paul you are so close to my dyno results from Hi Tech. (last december) Mine was 311hp. You will jump over my results real soon. PS while I'm sucking up to you how is my modified wheel well going? I can not find your phone number. I have an air kit just dying to be installed.

Kim, Whipple twin screw, 8lbs of boost, Walbro fuel pump and a Magna Fuel rising rate reg, A set of Neils headers, and a motor that has nearly 300,000 k's on, so I am happy with it.

Thanks for the conversion Pezza.

Nearly caught you Brett.

Its done Brett, Lew will have it real soon.

The ramp rate is 20 wich will give a higher power figure.A ramp rate of 13 would give you the power figure that it would put out on the road.
One concern is, Are you using the same dyno to tune it? If so make sure he tune's it at a ramp rate of 13.

Thats a great result Paul, it even looks like it would have kept climbing. Get some good management in there to smooth out that curve + clean up the mixtures and you will be laughing :-)

Go the twin screw 1UZ

Jeff, the dyno operator has simply followed the shootout prompt and selected 8F (V8 Forced Induction) which *automatically* gives a ramp rating suitable for testing high torque blown V8's (regardless of what you have on the dyno).

The next step is some form of engine management, just havent decided on which one yet. Still on the factory ECU.

On a run done a few weeks ago to set the rising rate reg they had it set on 6F, which I have been told gave me a lower reading than I should of had.

The other thing was that the rev limiter cut in at 5900 revs, I thought the factory setting was around 6300, anyone have any thoughts about that?

Ok. I have read that if you are tuning a forced induction engine that a lower ramp rate is required as detonation is a problem on the street after the tune.Is this just for turbo'd engines or doe's it apply to all.Correct me if I'm wrong.
I understand that's a shootout figure not a tune figure. No intent to take away your great Dyno figure Paul.....Well done mate.
But it's got me confused with what's right and what's wrong with ramp rate's.

Im kinda with Jeff on this one... Reason alot of motors go bang.. Tuned on high ramp rates and then punished on the road with alot more load and detonation destroys stuff!

No way any of these cars would in fact push 20km/h per second in 3rd gear for that matter( in an auto). Alot of tuners recommend on boosted cars, the lower the ramp rate, the closer the tune will be to when the car is actually on the road or circuit!

Nice figure though Paul, not detracting from that at all, just following Jeffs questions.

You guys are correct in both assumptions, that is a shootout figure not a figure that'd come during tuning. Although, because its not intercooled the figure (ideally) won't change much with a lower ramp.

Usually an intercooler starts off at ~%70 efficiency (via temperature delta) and drops to a steady running efficiency of %25-40 under load. So the difference in power between short and long dyno pulls is greater for turbo cars with lots of piping to heat up.

Just to clarify, i tuned a b16a naturally aspirated honda 4 banger last month - it made more peak power with a ramp of 10kph/s than a ramp rate of 20kph/s. I think it has a lot to do with the oil temp rising more and reducing bearing frictional losses further into the run. Because there is no heat exchanger or long piping in the engine bay to heat up; average induction temps (hence oxygen content) stays similar through out testing and gains from a drop oil viscosity become more apparent..
