Hi
I have an SC400 with a supercharger fitted- the problem I have is this;
when I start the car from cold it goes like a rocket with instant throttle response- and it feels very quick!- however after a mile or two (or is it when the car reaches a certain temperature?) a warning light comes on saying "engine electrical fault"- in Japanese of course, and at this point the performance drops off a little and the throttle response is no where near as good.
My initial thoughts was that the O2 sensors may need replacing (I've replaced just about everything else!) but a local soarer specialist reckons that it is because the ECU has not been re-mapped etc to take in to account aditional performance of the blower and is therefore retarding the timing slightly to compensate.
I may still change the O2 sensors and want to fit a BFI but said specialist has said that I will be wasting my time adding to the performance when the car can not identify with the existing mods.
He has also said that getting one of these cars remapped is near impossible but I'm guessing you guys have got round the problem??

Damian, I will change the O2 sensors just to be sure but a knock sensor could be a good call- thanks.
Tai- definitely isn't limp mode- its still reasonably quick (although an audi A5 3.2 did start to pull away from me on the Motorway today under full throttle..) its just slow to pick up.
If I turn the engine off and re start it immediately I get another 30secs or so of greatness before the bong cuts in again so perhaps its not temperature triggered.
Paul- thanks for the link to Smiffie- Smiffie actually built this car in that he fitted the supercharger for the guy who owned it prior to me! I have taken the car to Smiffies a couple of times and once he did have a real go at sorting this slight problem but couldn't crack it at the time- this was about 2 years ago so may be he's had more time to experiment since then!
I'm sure at some stage I've also swapped over the ECU and it had no effect- may be it was another bad ECU so I will try again.
Thanks guys for your help and sorry for the delay in responding- Damn time zones!

Have a look at the temp sensor, it sounds like it is running good when it's cold(rich) and then when it reaches operating temp the cold start switches off and it gets leaner and less power. I know if you unplug the temp sensor on my TT it gives the engine electrical fault. Could check for loose wiring/connection as well.

only had a chance to look at this briefly today as it has pretty much pee-d down all day here- cold and wet yet its supposed to be mid summer!
Had a quick look at the wire shown in your picture Leon and yes it has been caught by the belt at some stage and the outer casing looks fairly chewed - so I have a number of things to check when it finally stops raining and I get more time- probably next weekend now.

The out casing isn't all that thick, so mine was only just rubbed through, only half the wires broken. Easy to fix, took me about 10 minutes with a Soldering Iron and Heatshrink. I think there was enough length to do it without extending the wires. I also cable tied it up out of the way to prevent re-occurrence
