HOOYEH tai forget the pulley you are using dont bother tuning it get yourself a custom 2.5 inch made up and tune it then. No use tuning on low boost then tuning it again later when you boost it. do it once and do it right.

I measured the pulley.

Outside diameter = 68mm, so just a little over 2.5 inches... 2.677ish

Sounds like a keeper :-)

Whats the best way to set up the BOV to vent at like 11 or 12 PSI?

It states on the box that it is set for around 8 PSI factory, and I know how the adjustment is made, but what is the best way to set it?

do not touch the blow off valve. Your vortech unit is factory set to open at any vacuum below 4 inches. LEAVE IT THERE DO NOT TOUCH. it should not open under boost, only under vacuum so it can vent excess air. when the car is at idle and cruising it will be open. this can get annoying, i plumbed mine back to quieten it down

Extract taken from the maxflow race bypass and blowoff valve installation instruction.

"The bypass valve opening point can be adjusted from 3" Hg to 6" Hg. The blowoff valve opening point is set as 16" Hg and should not be increased."

16" Hg is just a smidge under 8 PSI, so what's the point of the 10 PSI pulley?

That doesn't make sense...

Why would a blow off valve open under vacuum when there is no excess pressure to vent?

From what I have gathered, the thing is going to start to open at about 8 PSI and it's max is 10 PSI.

Any more than that and you are looking at a Mondo instead of the Race bypass valve.

there is vacuum in the manifold, but if the bov does not open excess pressure would build up in the cooler piping.

Correct me if I am wrong, but when there is low load it's operating as a bypass valve.

It's open at vacuum, no problems...

Once load is introduced, the valve closes so boost can build...

If there is too much pressure it becomes a BOV and vents.. From my reading and understanding, at 8 PSI..

I called CAPA to ask about the bypass valve operation.

Gianni is correct. It WILL NOT OPEN under positive pressure trying to push the valve up.

Shift kit and trans cooler in, small leak on oil return fixed (didn't do up speed flow connector properly)

For anyone who hasn't got a shift kit.. GET ONE !!

First impressions are awesome! Dex III no problem, smooth as silk on down shifts, smoother than stock i rekon.

Smooth on part throttle and awesome at anything more :-)

Very satisfied.

Good to hear Tai.

Did you use the 1.5 Stage kit?

Any date planned for a dyno run? I am very curious to see how much power you make.

I'm still alive :-)

I'm studying at the moment so I have no income, hence the lack of progression..

Air temp sensor is installed and calibrated.

Last week I re-gassed the A/C and it seems to be working as before with the new line in place. Just in time for summer!

Dyno is booked in as of today for the 22nd of September at Competition Tuning & Performance in Capalaba.

I'm also trying to sort out stupid oil weeps which seem to be from sealant..

So still coming along :-)

Regarding your transmission Kris, two words of advice.....

DO IT!!!!

Just got off the Dyno and the old girl made a safe 313.5rwhp :-)

I'm pretty happy with that..

Air temp never got over 40 degrees which was great considering it's a pretty hot and muggy day here.

Engine temperature was another story.. We were consistently seeing 105 degrees which I didn't like one bit.. Even on moderate loads it would creep up.. I rekon the hydro fan isn't being controlled properly of something because it was never going flat out.. Is there an easy way to rig it to go flat out?

I'll post up some pics and then later get some video footage up :-)

Also, I was suprised to see 1 pound of boost at 2500rpm...

Might have to put a slightly smaller pulley on and get that boost up earlier in the rpm range :-)

For those too lazy to convert, 313.5hp = 234Kw

I recently did a few power runs on a Dynapack hub based dyno and did the runs from 3300rpm to 5600rpm where the stock 180kph limiter kicked in.

I won't publish my power figures in this company :-)

Great looking car Tai. Nice wheels and tires. Clean looking install in the engine bay, nearly stock looking.

I laid down a best run of 139kw which is a bit less than I thought it would do.

At the end of the day I could only run it to 5600rpm so there was possibly a little more in it and this is uncorrected.

What I really did the run for was to get the baseline before I add the M90.

I'm not sure if there is much difference between a hub dyno and a rolling chassis number, but 140kw is a good number for stock..

Most are around the 120 mark, i think mine was 135 or so.. I don't think they make any more power above 5600.. Even with boost climbing, you can see the hp dropping off, the motor just can't breath up there..

Good luck with the SC setup mate.. Post up as much as you can.

The hub dyno's are supposedly more consistent as there is no tire stretch due to heat etc. Who knows, at the end of the day I will be measuring the before and after on the same dyno so that's all that matters.

Only have a small section of intake trunking to make with the ICV tube in it then I am ready to bolt the setup on!

Matt.
