hi guys,
just wondering what the max speed is that people with around 200rwkw reach in a 1/4 mile run. i want to take my car to the drags but due to my 4.08 diff and the soarer's 180kmp/h speed restriction i think that i will be hitting the limiter before the the finish. i think when i had it on the dyno it maxed out between 165kmp/h and 170.

do you think i will be maxed out before the end. is their any wires i can solder in the ecu to mod the limiter like in the cruise control?

thanks guys

You should maybe be doing 100-104mph which is about 160-165km/h .. I think you will be fine.

Only 1 way to find out though :-)

With my 4.08 I was doing around 170kph on the dyno when I hit the limiter.

I have just built the Jaycar speedo correction unit and hope to wire it in soon.

If you set the Jaycar speedo corrector to display MPH (ie, reduce it to about 62%), then your cutout speedo will be at 180mph, instead of 180kph.

what does that do to the trans shift points?

I thought that the trans used the speed signal, not sure exactly what for though.

In a manual you could get away with it, but im pretty sure Matt is correct , in saying the ECU uses speed inputs for shift points?

Good point.
I have a manual, so I'm not worried about that.

Well lets keep talking about Autos - considering all V8s are AUTO. No disrespect to those have manual conversions :-)

Isnt there a way you can remove the 180km/h limiter on the stock ECU ?

Yes, and while you are at it you can remove the rev limiter and adjust fuel and timing as well. Just download the existing ECU ROM code, poke new values or rewrite critical sections, write to a new EPROM, install in the ECU and don't tell anyone you have re-used copyright code without licence. :-)

David...please explain further.I'm sure a few others who have installed external speed indicators with built in Delimiters (to read above the 179 klm/h cut-out and still know what they are doing and have "reasonable" gear changes)would like to know.

You can buy speed cut defenders, which intercept the SPD signal from the dash to the ecu, and basically cap it at 175kph so the ecu thinks you are only going at 175kph and doens't cut the fuel.
However this does stuff the Drive->OverDrive shift point, which is right around 180-190kph, so you have to back off the throttle a bit to get it to change up.
Or you can put a switch in there to disconnect the SPD signal at will. Im not sure how this affects the shifts and the ecu will default to the backup SP2 signal, and thinking about it now I'm not sure if the SP2 signal will induce speed cut

I have a buddy that is going to use a Adaptronics. Will he be able to disable the Top speed limiter using that?

Replacement ECU = no more speed cut.
Piggyback ECU = no change.

The Adaptronics is presumably a replacement.

Then simply.. "What exactly I need to get rid of this (179km/h) speed limiter??"

Probably best to stay on the safe side and leave the limiter on.
