hey guys just got my car off the dyno. its got a Vortec V1 s trim supercharger in it. intercooler and microtech ecu. managed 206 rwkw on 5psi. the tuner said that the exhaust was way to small and was restricting. changing the exhaust tomorrow and boosting it to 15psi then back on the dyno. Suprisingly the tuner is confident that the engine will handle 15psi on standard compression. so TTs watch out hehe the car feels very strong right now but traction is gona be an issue.

Coooool!! Any more info on your setup would be much appreciated. Although I still believe that the M90 style blower is a better blower on a normal V8 I can't use one on the VVTi engine if I want to retain the really nice variable length intake runner setup so a Vortech or similar will be the only way. At least intercooling should be a lot easier. How do they compare for pricing?

Interesting... why a Vortec V1 s trim supercharger and not an equivalent turbo for more efficiency and bang for buck? Hope your luxo spec V8 brakes and suspension are up to it

I would have thought the Vortec a cheaper option rather than bother with custom exhaust manifolds and such to facilitate a turbo install. Gianni, show us some pics if possible. That's a great result. Congrats.

Dunno... spend 4-5K on setting up a Vortech with custom mounts, belt assembly, intake plumbing, intercooling etc and have to upgrade the exhaust anyway... you'd spend about the same fitting a new single turbo setup for less parasitic losses and more potential.
In the old huff vs puff debate, I can understand the argument for a PD blower which will yield constant boost/power from idle to redline, but with the price of new turbos now, I can't see the logic in going for a centrifugal blower with it's progressive turbo-like boost/power deliver but with larger losses and smaller results than the equivalent turbo; maybe on a 6/7L big block with ample torque down low, but on a 4L - i'm not convinced. Each to their own.

Yeh, that's a fair point. It's a shame we can't get a kit from Capa for example. They currently have LS1 and Boss kits for $3995. Maybe if there is enough interest anything is possible.

I've been quoted $2500 for a centrifugal blower kit that comes with a huge universal bracket that they claim can be cut to fit most engines. if this turns out to be true then it is great value.

Do you have a dyno readout? Because of the low boost, the belt ratio of the blower is low and subsequent inlet temps are low. Dont expect the same efficiency hence power gain going to 15psi. Your lucky to have an replacement ecu, the standrd management retards timing extremely easily. Its also good that your using an intercooler, i suspect thats the main problem with the blower kits many of these guys are using. Its a lot easier on the engine with centrifugal blowers, not much boost down low where detonations more likely.
206rwkw sounds good though, doing a lot better than the blown v8's did on our dyno day. Probably drives like regular 4l until the revs climb hey?
Id change the spark plugs to a colder range or two! right about now, and gap them down a bit. Id also get a new thermo and pray your tuner knows what he's doing
cihan i already have colder plugs. using NGK iridiams and ford au thermo fans. Manny the main reason why i modify my car is because i enjoy working on it. i did the supercharger set up my self. the turbo option did come to mind but custom exhaust manifolds is not something i think i can manage to make myself. by the way i get boost from just off idle even on 5psi. the reason i didnt use a PD blower is because of the fact that they are very hard to intercool. i have seen the PD blower kits people are using here and their limit seems to be 200kw. with a vortec and intercooling i should be able to reach atleast 240kw on 15psi. by the way my exhaust was restricting the car making further power so once i fix that up we will see the true potential of the system.

Hmm, I would say JZZ30 brakes are actually pretty damn good for a 15 year old production car. Even UZZ30 aren't too bad, just not up to much extra power.

Giami,
Wow... great job.... You should send me some pictures lextreme@lextreme.com I made two brackets for this V1, the prototype was sold to Giami (sorry forgot your name. It has been a while now) and one is running in a LS400 in the US.
The bracket is NOT available anymore. However, if there is a great interest, I have to dig out my autocad data and make them. I am sure Giami can tell its a lot of work.
