I recently had my power steering pump recoed. Now when the car is hot, occasionally the steering becomes really stiff and hard to turn. Its a bit dangerous because its inconsistent. Getting stuck in a roundabout and having to do a three point turn because the steering just got hard on you sucks.
Anyway, i figure this might be due to a blockage somewhere, so i'm going to give the system a good flush and clean the reservoir. I also intend on replacing the reservoir hoses as they've gone very hard over the years.
I had a couple of questions about the flush procedure:
Is it vital to keep air out of the system? If i let air enter the steering system, is it difficult to remove?
Does anyone recommend any of these commercial flush products, or am i better off just sending fluid through the system to get rid of all the gunk?

If it goes hard as it heats up there is most likely air in the system. It should be completely air free as there needs to be pressure and air takes up room.

Best way to remove air from the system to to turn the wheel from lock to lock repeatedly and holding it against the stops for a couple of seconds each time

Jack the front of the car up first though so the wheels can turn freely. Flush at the same time if possible. A car that has done prolonged circle work with throttle wide open and steering on full lock will, if it has a half-decent pump and the fluid level is a bit low which it will be after a while, totally foam up the fluid and it will be near impossible to get the air out without completely flushing the system to get rid of the foamed-up fluid.
