Mike........I think the average on the mainland is somewhere around 20,000-25,000 per year which works out to between 400 and 500kms per week. That's roughly double your 200kms per week combined over the two vehicles.
As for oil coming back down, yeah I heard last night that the forecast was for around US$40 a barrel some time late next year. The problem is, as with everything, the oil companies know that once the punters get used to paying through the nose the stink will have died down somewhat so even if pump prices come back down, don't expect them to come down to previous levels of around $1.00 per litre. You know that the bulk of the money will be siphoned off as extra profits.

Very interesting thread.
My 2 cents with my experience with LPG is that it isnt worth it, especially on a car like the soarer. It would cost alot to convert, and still wouldnt perform as good as the petrol (unless even more is spent).
Plus youve got the smells and the cheap air when you tell people

So, invest in oil companies. You have to win one way or the other.

I just purchased a Toyota Prius from Japan for Kumiko and intend to import quite a few
Jeff, how is the Prius allowed in as an import? I thought since they are locally available, you couldn't bring them in (unless there is an exception I missed).
Either way, I'm currently looking at a second car, as the Soarer is getting way too costly to be a daily driver anymore.

That's right Neil, many that I see have close to 200k on them. I thought about getting one but Imah hates the look (it's about the only Toyota she doesn't like...). I had heard that the batteries were pricey, too. There has been an ongoing saga on the online car magazine.. Autospeed, about this car.

They were brought in as the early model, the NHW11.
Batteries are rated for (I think) 8 years and 400,000 miles in the USA, however Toyota said they built them for the life of the car.
I can get a new battery in Japan, much cheaper than new Turbo's!
The Autospeed article is about some doofus who tried to recharge the battery (which you should not have to do, he was being a dill getting a turbo fitted to the motor and he let his battery drain doing so) and nearly blew himself up.
Oh and it's 3.6 litres to the 100 BTW or 66mpg in the old school.

The only gas going in my Soarer will be if I eat too menny beans I dont drive mine every day, so is not as much of a problem. It is one of the very few pleasures in life to drive my Soarer, so I dont mind paying for the privaledge.
