lol benn i dont think an aristo would be much if any more economical then a soarer! although it would be nice... i read a good quote somewhere the other day, that said that petrol is still one of the cheapest liquids you can buy, its cheaper then coke and water, yet you dont here people complaining about those prices.

I also don't need 75 litres of Coca Cola to drive to Port Macquarie. Petrol should be expensive, VERY expensive. It's way too cheap. Oil is like life, a non renewable resource. How much value do you put on life... the more value as you have left to live. We have been energy gluttons and our kids etc will have to pay. A Prius is really a crock. How much energy is consumed to manufacture one, I don't know, but when you consider that 1 kg of finished plastics costs 26kw of energy to get to the consumers hands, I shudder to think what a Prius, or any new car, would cost. 1st world nations need to work out how to re-use (not recycle, re-use!) the resourses they have better, including used vehicles.

Now, consider.. 1/ Less engine oil changes and filters 2/ Less disk pad wear as the generator acts as a speed retardent. 3/ Less bet wear on pullies etc. 4/ 1498cc motor, so probably cheap to register and insure.

Now also consider... 1/Less fun, 2/Less style, 3/Less features 4/Less safe It's not all one-way traffic Jeff. Can't wait to see the inaugural Prius cruise. Or for that matter Jeff punting one around Wakefield Park.

Good on ya Jeff, I love the Prius, fantastic car. I am sure it will be a great car for you. It wont be long before $2.00 is the cost of 1 litre of petrol and everyone will have their pockets burning... I know who will be laughing then!!!

Ollie, if I can make a living out selling them to the deep pocketed tree huggers, well, I will cry crocodile tears as I go cruising past them in my Soarer anytime. Notice, HID got the Prius, NOT ME!

"It wont be long before $2.00 is the cost of 1 litre of petrol and everyone will have their pockets burning... I know who will be laughing then!!!" Yeah I do too. Those dropkicks who forked out nearly 70K for Holden Adventras that chew up around 17 litres per 100km.......On a good day. Hahahaha.

C'mon Jeff a 3L twin turbo VVTI? that's gotta be economical. Just look at what all the boys with the 2.5L gets ... or better not actually. But it WOULD be nice. Neil, those Yahoo Japan links you put up don't work for me. I just get to a sign-on screen and that's it.

| I had my Soarer serviced at Peter Pilkington's yesterday and they gave me an automatic Scargo as a loan car. I now know why they named it after a snail.

I think Hybrid technology will be the future for cars. Although it's highly unlikely that petrol/crude oil will run out within 50 years. If it was to the price would be a LOT more than the current prices. AFAIK Toyota has quite a few Hybrid cars in Japan, I don't know why they don't bring them out here (GS450H, RX400H etc.) to replace the straight petrol versions.

Read up on shale oil. There are reserves of it to last hundreds of years. Only problems are mining it currently consumes a lot of power and makes lots of CO2 so greenpeace hates the stuff, and after mining it costs around $40 US a barrel compared to light sweet crude. However in the current climate of 70 US a barrel its relatively cheap. If someone can come up with a mining process for shale oil thats cheap and low impact on the environment, they'll make a lot of money. Its also good for australia as we have an estimated 36 billion barrels of shale oil we can produce, but america has trillians of barrels of the stuff they can produce.
