hi, we took the soarer to the Ryde Dealership for a service and flushing of all fluids including engine coolant, brake fluid, diff oil, power steering oil, etc. The car was perfect prior to the service however after getting the car back from the service the car had a miss when idling, so we took it back the very next day and they admitted that it was their fault and that coolant/water had gotten to plug number 6 in the process of flushing the coolant. To our disappointment the car again gave the same problem along with a reduction in power in lower revs. Yet again we took the car back and they said that there was coolant/water in plugs number 1 and 4 this time. To our disbelief the car again had the same problem soon after bringing it home. Each time we got the car back from the dealer the car was very smooth however after stopping the car for about an hour it gave the problem. It seems pointless to take the car back to the dealer as they seem incompetent so i was wandering if this has ever occurred to any other soarer users or know why this keeps occurring.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks again.

PS: It is a 1994 non-turbo inline 6 Soarer with about 75,000kms on the clock

Try doing an ecu reset ie unhooking the battery for a few mins.

We had a 1995 3.0, Naveen which would miss for a week or two after washing the engine bay. The 1997 we have does not have the same problem, maybe it's something to do with the different ignition systems the two cars have. Our runs are short here so a longer run might have dried the engine out quicker. It seemed like one plug only affected.

Naveen, you're better off taking your car to Niall in Bondi. At least you will know that your car is going to be in good hands, since Niall is an expert on all Soarers.

Do not get me wrong but I have lost faith in dealers. Changing all the fluids should not give any problem to any of the spark plug, because changing fluids has nothing to do with the spark plugs. Somebody in this dealership was messing with your spark plugs which in some way has involved taking the engine cover off for no apparent valid reason. My loss of faith about this people called ‘experts’ has prone me to learn a lot about my Soarer, reading forums and manuals.

Let’s be clear, these mechanics are in some ways like doctors, i.e. doctors in order to learn their speciality have to kill a number of patients and mechanics in order to learn their skill have to damage a number of cars to gain proficiency.

I have changed all the fluids in my car, including the brakes in my car and it drives without misfiring because there is no reason why it should and I am a complete novice. Perhaps the garage has blown out some gaskets or seals in the engine block coolant water path.

It must be a very serious problem that coolant goes into the spark plug compartment and that is the main reasons why the shop manual says to drain all the coolant before you change the spark plugs or better as one member of this forum recommends not to loosen/remove the coolant hoses from the engine/throttle body in order to change the spark plugs in a Soarer 3.0L.
