Roger It would appear that TT power steer pumps are a lot more resilient and don't suffer the same wear and reliability issues as V8 pumps do only needing that top o-ring changed periodically - at least that's what I've been told by both Neil and Nial who maintain them regularly.

Neil, Thanks, is there anything special I need to put on the thread before fitting it - sealant, teflon tape?
Manny, I fully understand the need to rebuild a perfectly good pump "just in case"! The "brand new" inlet o ring on my V8 pump is definitely leaking under vacuum. Hence the pump groan unless the reservoir is overfilled. Either the sod's fitted a non Toyota part or the wrong o ring from the kit. At least it's easy to change, and leaks only under vacuum so no fatal fluid on the alternator.
The rest of the world, I and certain other frustrated people while trolling the EPC noticed a plastic cover shown on 94 V8's to shield the alternator from PS fluid. Some of us even ordered the part from Japan. I have looked at the alternator on every year of V8 fro 91 to 97 and can't find one of these things fitted on any of then. It does not bolt onto anything obvious and no one I've ever met knows where it goes or how. I have had about three frustrating tries at fitting it and given up. Far more patient and capable people than me who also bought one are stumped. I am coming to the conclusion it fits into the same category as optional rear air-conditioning in a Soarer (and no I don't mean the air-purifier). A sort of joke played by the Japanese on the rest of the world. It's in the EPC but not fitted in the real world. Has anyone ever seen a black plastic drip shield on a V8 Soarer alternator? If you can post a photograph of how it is fitted I will send you a brand new one free.
Regards
Roger

Roger, for what its worth the PS on my fist 91 was noisy and groaned...tried to get rid of it and rebuilt the pump, that didn't work....purchased a brand new pump got a specialist to fit it, still had the same problem after spending 2 grand. I took the car to Lexus and they told me that it is REALLY important that following a rebuild or fitting new pump the belts always should be removed and the pump must be hand primed and rested prior to fitting the belts and starting because in a split second if the pumps are starved for oil they damage some gizmo internally and will then groan..as mine did.

Part n.o. 90301-11016 for the O-ring on the TT power steering pump can be purchased locally in Perth from Galleria Toyota for all those TT owners in Perth needing O-rings for there pumps. Cost is about $3.75

Just got from the local Toyota dealer the V8 power steering pump seal kit
part # TO-0444624012 cost $37
Cliff it turns out i probably didnt need to do it anyway, the guy i took the dead alternator to knows all about the dripping fluid issue but when he looked at the alternator he said it was clean (as it should be with only 12000km!) and it looks like some idiot whacked a jump starter the wrong way across the battery terminals while it was on the wharf that blew the alternator up!
Anyway $100 later and i have a working alternator plus the reconditioned power steering pump.
Just gotta hope now they havnt blown anything else up...

Don't lose any sleep over it. The alternator was deliberately designed to sacrificially save the rest of the electronics in the event of a reverse polarity battery connection. Usually everything else with the occasional exception of a fusible link and fuse or two survives the drama. Which is a good thing given there is an awful lot of electronic everything else to replace. Can't hurt to do a PS rebuild on the V8's, with the exception of the Actives they nearly all leak eventually. TT owners can feel smug at this point.

So why don't we find someone that can make a simple and easy to fit alternator cover? Surely it can't be that hard for someone with the right tools and skills?

I came across link this while looking for a solution for a fix on my GT UZZ30 that has the flutter and when warm goes to safe mode ,its been a real piss off messing with mafs ,IACs idle sensor ECU fuel pump , anyway I came up with a design years ago when the leaking power steering destroyed the alternator ,I had the pump kit put in and replaced alternator and made this it is wedged in the and held in place by wire tie , I sent my Brother a dozen BJ McC ,text him on 0407246811 he has been soaring for 20- years you might be in luck or make your own
