| Ive found more and more that I need a trailer. Its a hassle calling my old man or brother for help moving large things around. Ive also got myself a dirt bike and need a trailer hitch to move it around. I have access to a small trailer so thats not a problem, but where to find a hitch for a Soarer? Do you have to get these things custom made? How much would I be looking at for one? Any recomendations for what to look for? Cheers -Shaun |

| I got quoted from Jack Beedhams in Redcliffe Brisbane $470 for a custom welded Tow-bar system, I was told that the car was not designed for towing, so the heaviest I would be able to tow would be small box-trailor without having to start upgrading brakes and other things. B. |

| Yeah I figured it wouldnt be able to tow much in standard form. I have a 6 x 3 trailer, its pretty light weight. I just need it for moving couches, the bikes etc. Not more than a few hundred Kilos. $470. Ouch. Bit more than I expected. |

| Click "Search" at top of this page. Type in "tow bar" (without the quotes) Click on "Perform Search" at the bottom of the page. Read a couple of posts and learn all about towing weight, tow bar prices and where to get them, etc. It's really hard. Not!

| Fastfit Towbars in Liverpool, Sydney. Talk to Maree, she owns the joint. They keep Soarer on the shelf. |

| Pfft, if a '90's 6 cylinder Commondork can tow a 5.5 metre boat with its brakes (common site around here), I'd think a TT Soarer would do a much better job. |

Absolutely - I hate the thought of towing anything with my Soarer. |

| Like wise! - Only good thing IMO about a tow bar on a soarer is that it will take a bit of impact it some one rear-ends you! |

| I was more referring to towing 5.5m boats with Commodores, I've quite happily towed light things behind my Soarer. |

| It's almost like towing whatever behind an XK8 or something in the luxury sport car segment - Pretty odd and not something you would ever thing of - well I wouldn't anyway! Back in 1991 I doubt any soarers would have been towing stuff! As at that time they were a true quality luxury sports coupe - Should still apply today, well at least with the tidy condition ones like mine, but I suppose its okay with the neglected doggy soarers...

| Geez, It's a 15 yr old car that's neither rare nor expensive, get over it. Back in '91, the majority of the Soarer's would have been in Japan, so I agree....most wouldn't be towing stuff. |

Yeah but still, Regardless In my personal view I think its horrible to use them as a towing car just because it has a large motor... (Plenty of other cars more suitable, IE Hilux...) Sure they don't have too much value these days but they still have great sentimental value which wants to me want me to keep them crisp and as tidy as possible not to turn them into a extra stressed work horse by towing things around especially since they are getting older and need extra care... Still its really up to the individual and what they want to do with their soarer which is fair enough |

| Oh for Gods sake! He owns a Soarer. He needs to tow some thing. If he owned a Hilux he wouldn't be asking about towing behind the Soarer. If you aren't able to help or don't want to just leave it alone. Yes it gets a little annoying to read the same question several times a year, but at least Peter pointed him in the right direction. It took 12 posts for this thread to deteriorate into the usual 'my car is a 12 year old virgin'. Shaun, I too have often wanted the flexibility of a tow bar but found the cost to be a bit prohibitive for the number of times I would use it. (I had quotes similar to those above) |

Yeah thats fair enough, Depends on the Scenario etc so I hope Shaun get something done on it that suits his requirement the best. But, Just as soon as I hear towing, I get that Idea of a big fat load stressing the trans out and pulling a tired trailer with junk on the back - Bit of a degrading look next to a soarer! but if its something nice like a jet ski, bike or new flash trailer why not! As long as a trans cooler is installed to keep the increased work load temperatures down! |

| My TT (Aaron's car in Darwin) bought home a dead Range Rover from the other side of town once. That's a 4000+kg load with the tandem and it did an admirable job. 32 has towed the trailer and a boat, another 32 I know towed a Soarer from Canberra to Sydney, no issues. What makes them any different from any other car. Good strong chassis, good attach points? Why do they have to be simply show ponies. We also have a bar on the Celsior and it does just as good a job as the Soarer, although the TT with coilovers and the 32 beat it hands down for stability. So Shaun, go for it mate. Use your car for whatever suits you. You won't do it any harm at all. For constant large loads, I would follow the advice and fit a tranny cooler though, just to be on the safe side. But the occasional 6x4 trailer or our dirt bike, no need! |

| I was personally only talking about *my* Soarer when I said I hate the idea. I love driving my car, the feeling it gives on the open road - so its just the thought of having a dead weight attached to the back of it that makes me shudder. If you have to tow, you have to tow! And yeah, I've seen, and occasionally been party to way too many cases of mechanical abuse when it comes to towing, I definitely think twice about buying a car with a tow bar attached already. |

How can something you don't own yourself hold any sentimental value what so ever? It's a car, not God's gift to mankind... And why would you go out and buy a Hilux to tow a trailer when a V8 Soarer is just as capable? Makes no sense...

You do realize that you keep contradicting yourself with every post you make? First you go on about how you disprove of using a Soarer as a tow car and then all of a sudden you support the individual's choice to use it if they want to...?

| argh guys, stop this, it isn't productive at all for anyone. For those that have a Fastfit Towbar, can i ask what the recommended weight of towing is? normally it is like 150kg downward force and some number of tonnes pulling force, ignoring trailer brakes, is this a heavy duty or light duty tow bar set up (ie it is rated to handle the 2 tonne loads if it was required)? I also am looking into chucking one on the GF's car in the near future (and my little 18r powered celica also...but that is a different thread for a different forum), I was going to try Allin Tow bars here in adelaide to see if they did a heavy duty one but that fast fit one sounds like it would be alright if it is able to do a heavy load when required. edit: ha i just remembered your post at Toymods edit 2: i just rang allin towbars and it would be a custom job for around 500 dollars edit 3: Hayman reese "don't make for soarer or lexus" edit 4: Fastfit towbar is a standard duty towbar able to pull 1200kgs $330 delivered to adelaide area. |

| Towbars on sports cars are only handy for when people run up your rear end. I had a fulli sik WRX go up the back of my previous car, no damage to the car other than scratching to the bumper bar for me, but the WRX was a little worse off, so we exchanged details and I left. This all happened right infront of the security Cameras at Castle Towers shopping centre, so I was fine with the situation. About 3 hours later, Habibi rings me up, telling me I backed into his car while his G/F was driving, and he wants me to pay for the damages, plus towing, plus hire of a car while his car gets fixed. I told him to go talk to his g/f again, then go speak to his insurance company, then speak to a lawyer, and get his lawyer + insurance company to get the video footage from Castle Towers, and to call me back in 40 minutes as I was busy with my sore neck at the Doctors from where his g/f ran up the back of my car. Needless to say I never heard from him again. B. |
