Having just over hauled the power steering pump, the engine now surges when warm. Revs go from 700 to 2500, even when driving. One thing I did do wrong was start up with the jack-plug off the 'Intake Air Temp Sensor' (I had to move air-box out of the way to get at the pump...big fingers etc). Would this have caused this fault? I have tried disconnecting the battery to reset the computer, but the problem persists. HELP!

If you had to move the airbox, chances are you have irritated or caused a vaccuum leak. Have a look at the intake pipes AFTER the airflow meter (engine side) and check for cracks/looseness where air might be leaking in.

Other than that, I have no idea!

Surging persisted despite much hose clip tightening etc. First EFI specialist couldn't get their diagnostic machine to talk to the Soarers computer and gave up. Second garage (they race Toyotas)had the car for two days, but did get things hooked up and talking. All electronics seemed OK. Eventually they found the problem. Faulty 'step up motor'??? I wouldn't know one of them if it arrived in a taxi and peed on my foot. We live and learn. Hope this might help someone else in the future.

You mean stepper motor?

Hrmm, Idle speed motor maybe? I don't know what other stepper motors the V8 would have...but wouldnt expect the ISC motor to cause that.

Surge at idle = intake leak.

Find it and fix it.
