My parents just bought a Honda Jazz, 1.3L auto. It's got a CVT transmission.
They couldn't get it up the driveway. It was like it didn't have enough guts to pull and was just sitting there like a normal auto during a stall test.
Has anyone heard of something similar happening?
Any ideas?

Manually select first and try again...
At least you didn't drop your Soarer into a ditch because some arse construction workers didn't leave you enough room to get into YOUR OWN driveway, and because the incline on the drive was eough for your car to throw the unsafely placed steel bridge....
This is my driveway, now about 40% THINNER than before, and no mailbox drop or notification this was going to even possibly happen, NOT HAPPY JAN!!!

What did they do to your driveway,
Dug a friggin 30cm deap, 2 foot long, 5 meter wide hole in front of the guttering crossing my driveway.
The 3 biggest issues I had with the construction work was:
A) I was not informed of work that could effect the entry to the driveway where I live.
B) Limiting the opening to the driveway to so close to the exact size of my car, not bothering to realise you need to tackle the drive at an angle, even in a commodore, let along an imported performance car.
C) Not securing the steel sheets covering the 30cm deep holes, so after tackling the driveway, as I went to accelerate up the incline, the rear wheels kicked the steel plates out, and I ended up dropping my Soarer onto the aftermarket exhaust, flattening the cannon muffler, and leaving the rear wheels dangling in the air, having to get a friend with a crane towtruck to lift me out.
I have emailed the council, the contruction company, and heard SFA back, but it had to have gotten somewhere, because the suddenly widened the driveway.
I am still seeking at least a friggin appology, but would like to get the flattened pipe and muffler repaired as well.
